The most interesting of people still don't know what they want to in their fifties.

I have a degree. I've decided in the year since finishing my degree I'm going to study business and start my own photography business late next year.

I regret my degree and the debt it caused me to be in so badly. I keep pretending that it might come in handy if my business fails, but I'm fooling no one.

Same here, I wish I had done a different degree. I've been thinking about taking some other courses, but I still can't decide what.

I left my job earlier this year, because I couldn't stand being there one minute longer and I was hoping that the time out would help me find what I want to be doing. But so far, no joy.

I can't afford to do courses so I'm going to self teach myself business studies while I save for better equipment. Although I may see if the local college does photography courses just so It looks good on paper.

    What degree did you do?

That is a cool plan hdh. My degree is a bit of a piss take, I sort wish I did night courses.. But without the degree I wouldn't have been able to find my style of making.. Even though it will be for a hobby. I spose that's what you get with a creative degree :S I don't feel I'm at an academic degree level. I want to be.

Claire my A Level photography was a waste of time, they just taught me 5 mins of theory- light, aperture and shutter speed, then the rest of the course was project work. You are fantastic at photography, you don't need a course to show your skills.

The thing is though I'm worried that not having an a level/degree would hinder my business. I get mixed messages from this as a few professionals I know say that I should definitely get a business going as soon as I can afford high end lenses because my work speaks for itself.

But then the people that do have qualifications say I'll get nowhere without qualifications. So yeah I dunno.

What do you mean you want to be at an academic degree? Do you think you're degree is a waste of time?

Enjoy that is a sweet pic ^^

There are tonnes of self employed business people in the creative sector who don't have creative qualifications, and they are just as successful as the others who do. People who want to buy your work won't be looking at your qualifications, they will be looking at your work.

I just feel there is a huge gap between creative degrees and academic ones. I'd like to have had a lot more theory taught to me. I'm still as shit dumb as when I started when it comes to glazes or kilns.. But at least I know how to make a pot ¬¬

to be honest creative courses are only useful for meeting people and working with them, I study film in the best course in my country and its a damm joke, i have one class a week during this year, It's costing me a fortune because the government screws me out of a grant year in and year out, but im learning so much from the people im in college with and honing my skills with them. the degree isnt worth the paper its written on but the experience speaks for itself

Maybe you should think about teaching yourself DV?

I'm glad you said that Jason, It's made me feel more positive about my business. I'm gaining more experience everyday through my 365 project and I'm going to be starting a photographic society in my village soon so I should meet more people.

I'm sorry the governments royally screwing you over though, damn that's really bad to hear but at least you're getting the experience to work with others though.

I'm redoing another degree at 24 because I dropped out of a more 'creative one' in the last year. I'm an old fart compared to some of the people I share a class with, but it's better to not only have a degree but a working degree. These days everyone has one, you need one that is functional but also you need to get the grades- it's extremely competitive.

I've a few friends who have fallen on their face after uni, it's a shame, but if you fall off the horse you just have to get back on the horse.

But alas, I don't really know where i'll be going after uni. Let's be honest though, at least in my case, I find the people at my age who know what they are doing, have kids, houses, the same job they will have for the rest of their lives- I find these people annoying and I feel sorry for them.

I still don't know what I want to do... so I do a couple things. There is no need to know what you want to do for the rest of your life... Who the heck does?

And as for Jason who said his body is wearing down... that made me giggle. Exercise a bit more and I'm sure you'll see you are just as healthy. I think I'm in awesome shape right now and I'm 30.

It's so funny reading all these comments about people feeling old. I pity you all because your life is just going to keep getting more depressing. I would spend some time learning how to grow old gracefully and accept age. It's going to happen and you may as well embrace it and learn to love it. =) So much comes with growing older. I have never been afraid and I feel just as beautiful and full of spirit now as I did when I was 15. Perhaps more because I now have much more confidence in myself.

    Growing old is beautiful. =)

Husbands are useless. Been trying to ring him to put an extra £3.95 in my bank for my lush stock up p&p. Doesn't fucking answer his phone UNTIL he's on the bus home. I've made him get off and go back to put the money in. HA! Should have answered his phone and not ignored my calls before he got on the damn bus. Going in the garden to shoot some roses.

Yeah it would! The bubble bars are my favourite though. I think I just shot a baby cricket. Urgh my cf card failed so I lost most of the shots. But he stayed for like thirty seconds so I have 3 shots of it.
