Rated PG-13 for intense epic battle sequences and warfare, sensuality, language and some smoking. really?
I miss the good o'l days when there was smoking on saturday morning cartoons... ...That of course was before we found out that smoking is the equivalent of rape.
Too bad the ratings did not reflect if the film was any good. I have teens and sometimes I wonder about the ratings as when they have watched them I really found that it was not any worse than what they could watch on the TV.
I live under a rock, and we don't get many movies here, or for that matter many previews.... But that's a wee bit messed up.... Smoking? Although when I was 13, PG13 meant like G today.... Like you couldn't even see bullet/weapon impacts, or blood actully coming from a wound, though they could hose everything down with red and show someone doubled over or whatever. Todays PG13 would have been R a few years ago, from what I've seen. Maybe it's just the movie studios have stopped respecting family values.... or something
So, I cant help but wonder now, if any movie with someone smoking a cigarette will be rated PG-13? Its both funny and insane. I mean doesn't PG already stand for Parental Guidance? Why do they now suggest that smoking be considered being rated PG-13? Have you ever seen the number of smokers who fumble for their cigarettes after exiting a movie theater? Half with Kids.
It is illegal for stores to even have cigarettes in view here. I think it's still ok for porn to be on the top magazine shelf, though, but I haven't looked lately. Now I'm curious.
What I find odder is that in The States, nudity makes the rating higher. Loads of violence is fine, but if there are nipples it makes "blond haired blue eyed baby Jesus" cry?
thats because in the US babies are born fully clothed. we also shower with clothing on. nudity is the devils work. murder and violence are okay cause god said so, but nipples cause people to be devious. can't have any of that. oh and babies aren't breastfed with a boobie showing. they are blinded until they start eating hamburgers like the rest of us normal people. stupid babies.
That's pretty messed up about cigarettes. If there's nothing violent or whatever, saying you can't even show paper tubes becomes pretty totalitarian...
I wouldn't mind this if violence was also a factor in the rating. Smoking is terrible and the less romanticizing in movies the better. Also, where are you guys seeing people smoking in movie theaters? I've never seen this.
