This board screwed up my last post and left some of it out and will not let me edit it. SO:

Hippie is/was not a political movement, it is/was a social movement. Hippies who do look to politics for a solution, look to the Liberals, not conservatives, who are repressive and materialistic. Nixon hated Hippies because they were the heart of the peace movement that dogged his entire presidency. I think the he created the DEA to beat down the Hippie movement.

anyone left or right whio takes the tea parties seriously is easily swayed. if they were the real thing, the media would remain silent or next to silent about them and would try to bury them. not only that, but sarah palin and glenn beck wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole if they were the real deal. they're what i like to call controlled opposition

No, because hippies are progressives -- Tea Partiers are more "natural order" types.

And I'd have to agree. There's nothing hip about them. They are all sell outs.

The hippies of old were all about inclusion. The teaparty is all about exclusion and protectionism. Nothing there I can identify with.

You have a point. Beck and Palin are seeking celebrity, hippies didn't worship at the celebrity gates, we made our own, and they changed. We weren't open to marketing trends, we made our own trends.

    To quote JackFlash:

Thing is a lot us forgot that, we sought security financially and emotionally. We faltered. We allowed the establishment to buy us out. And our children and their children will have to absorb our mistakes. I am so sorry. The gulf now witnesses our greatest weaknesss. I thought there could be nothing worse than Katrina, but I know now she was nothing in comparison to corporate greed.

These teabaggers pretty much stand in opposition to everything the counter culture of the 60's stood for. The teabaggers are the spiritual and political decedents of the Dixiecrat party of the mid 20th century, who in turn were separated from the KKK by about 10 minutes.

The Tea Party will last about as long as the Dixiecrats, but the damage they're doing may last for decades. This is not a political party or a social movement, it's a temper tantrum by several groups of varying interests who are pissed that Obama won the election. This anger would have burned itself out months ago if not for Republican leaders like Sarah Palin and Mitch McConnell and the corporate interests funding it.

As time goes by, this Teabag hysteria looks more like a mob with the mentality of a mad dog. At some point the anger will peak, the pack will disperse and they will slither back to their Klan meetings and neighborhood bullshit sessions around the big screen on Saturday night complaining about the price of beer that was bought with their disability, unemployment and S.S. checks, still grumbling about that damned Socialist in the White House.

We will likely be left with enough assholes in Congress to prevent any meaningful solutions to the problems brought about by a decade of a Corporate controlled Republican Congress.

Simply put, hippies are left-wing, the tea party is right-wing. Sarah Palin is the antihippie.
