Crick wrote a book about the idea that life may have been seeded here by extra-terrestrials merely as an intriguing idea and not a serious theory. So to claim that these people are following the work of Crick is misleading.

I dunno if it's bullshit. I mean the human body is made up of particles that have existed since the and the universe has created. A single atom in your body may have experienced the whole distance of time and space

so to find extra terrestrial anything seems plausible enough to me.

i didn't read the article yet, but i have often wondered what "junk" DNA is. scientists always think of it with the quotation marks, b/c we assume it will be found to be of some significance.

i have some notes about junk DNA from my advanced genetics class, but they are at school.

i've thought about what if junk DNA is the collective (un)consciousness, or instinct?

that's not very scientific though. it is known that some of these regions regulate gene expression, and can code for "junk" RNA, which has regulatory functions. some junk DNA is probably structural, but some has unknown functions, but are conserved so presumably important SOMEHOW

It is relevant when attempting to determine if said event happened.

it sounds like your self proclaimed protegenous scientists read too many science fiction novels... its like, how the hell do they know that THAT DNA is extraterrestrial... its kinda like lookin at a kid with downs syndrome and saying... yup hes alien, hes got an extra X chromosome... honestly, with all the paranoid theories out there, this one is like looking at one of those magazines in a supermarket that say bigfoot is the father of former president bush... come on guys..

I can't commit to believing in it, but I can commit to the possibility as I'm sure many of us can. However in my interpretation of evolution, the process is more important then the creation aspect. Meaning, the how we got here part can't explain the obvious changes in life generally and evolution makes the most sense to me in regards to that. Sure, we may have been brought here by something out there, do I believe it was a God? No. But I do believe that some sort of Darwinian process took place after the life forms showed up.

which is also another aspect of the evolution theory

For that matter its quite likely that the last breath you took in contained at least a few molecules from the dying breath of jesus christ

anything that explains where or how we came from, without solid evidence is theory.. remember that now... darwinism is theorized, the only solid thinking he had going for him was environmental adaptation.

How exactly would they be able to distinguish that a portion of the DNA is "alien"?

they would have to have some alien DNA, sequence it and compare it to the sequence of human DNA....i don't think they did that
    but maybe

Good question given the fact that it was aliens who first introduced us to recombinant DNA

I'm guessing while the technique they use for masking their DNA is sophisticated; they surely underestimated the ingenuity of man [IMG]

This is false by definition. A theory is something that rests upon mountains of evidence, provides explanatory power, provides predictive power, and leads to further research. In science theories are held in higher regard than facts because facts are merely data sets whereas theories explain and organize those facts. Furthermore while Darwin did fail to explain speciation, his concept that all life shares a common ancestor is certainly a fact. At least as much of a fact as germ theory, the theory of gravity, and atomic theory. To deny it is perverse.

I read those 3 paragraphs, can someone paraphrase the rest?

Or is it basically just like the title says? I don't really know what to think about this
