this may be a dumb question to someone who knows the facts about distance/ability, but on a personal level, i think you're a genius.
I wouldn't mess with the sun. And why not recycle most of the junk ! We'll go dump the radioactive shit on mercury.
we should drill a big hole and return the garbage to the center of the Earth...or just fly over a volcano and drop it in
I'm pretty sure if we were close enough to where we could aim all the space junk towards a black hole we would be soon to follow going into that thing. Why not use your idea and just aim it towards a planet that we will never inhabit like Mercury or Venus?
all of us have heard of the slow boat to china, how about if we put them in a space cannon and let her rip?? he he he
Well, it's a cute idea, but... why bother with a black hole. The sun would work just as well, as would deep space. And no, tossing some stuff into the sun isn't going to affect it. It'd be like crying into the ocean, and worrying you'll make it overflow. However, this doesn't take into account a fairly important prospect. That being that our garbage is in part made of some fairly important elements that there is a limited supply of on earth. Granted that most of it is basically carbon, hydrogen and other really common elements, but there's also a fair amount of material that we just have a specifically limited quantity of. Seriously, improving our capacity to recycle is our only real alternative. We're running down on certain materials already. The price of silicon and copper are skyrocketing. The price of energy rich fossil fuels is rising. Which btw also will affect the price of plastics eventually. We need to start really looking at these problems with a mindset other then that of maximizing short-term profits. The invisible hand of the free market economy has the notable disadvantage of being very near-sighted. Without some forms of over-arching controls, long-term sustainability will continue to elude us.
Yeah that's a great Idea if you wouldn't have the problems of lava flow from pressure. It's not a great idea to fly or a volcano either, the ash will cause flame out.
Well um.....you could recycle it.........instead of sending garbage out to space.....yeah that sounds better to me.
Actually, it's (even using the Sun) a great idea. BUT-- for reasons I won't bore you with, anything you throw at a star is going to assume orbit unless you put one hell of a lot of energy into overcoming that tendency. On a guess, I'd say it would take 10,000 to a million times as much fuel (by mass) as the amount of garbage that could be disposed of using this method. Now if we could E=MC2 the garbage and use it for fuel... But if we could do that, than we wouldn't have to send it into space, would we?.
odon or 9.8~ gigakms I can fit here to barnhards star in head... after 15 LY's it gets woozy where is the tylenol Occam
well there is also a theory proposed by scientists about white holes (not joking) which says that the matter in a black hole goes through a worm hole to a white hole where it is spat back into the universe. theoredically possible but not proven.
