do you know youre blood type? i just read this book eat right for your blood type, i dont know if i believe it or not. any thoughts?
I got a card in the mail today saying I have A positive, from when I donated blood at school. I'm glad I had a chance to share this information today. It is a nifty little card.
I've seen a book about eating certain foods if you have a certain blood type. Personally I have no idea and neither do my parents. I haven't had any blood drawn since I was a baby (do they draw blood from babies? That sounds kind of sick...) Anyway, I've never given blood or anything because I'm too skinny so no one has ever checked.
My blood type is O Positive. It would do me no good to know this for a transfusion. In an emergency where there is not time to do a Antigen screen they would start with transfusing O Negative which is considered universal donor. For a transfusion they will type for Antigens. They are markers on the red blood cells and they define within each group of ABO and RH markers. O Negative has no antigens that is why they can use it with some safety in an extreme emergency. In typing they break it down into A B AB O with markers for also minor antigens so that the probability of a reaction from a transfusion is reduced. If you were transfused today and needed another tonight they would retype in case the transfusion altered in any way your Antigens. So back to back transfusions can be done with one cross match, any break between means a cross match has to be done. I have read over the years many books and articles on blood types and eating. Many believe that if you eat for your blood type then it means that your metabolism will be able to process what you intake more efficiently. Some even believe that depending on your blood type is a variable on even being health while for example being a Vegan. In all I have read, it seems as usual that there is no real agreement as to benefit and if it is scientifically proof. I personally am not sure if that is just that the science has not caught up yet, in that it is not measurable by anything that we have to do so with. Very few studies have been done on this that are long term, so while it may benefit someone for months there has not been the data over years to show that body chemistry has benefited from it. One of those thing that I think if you wish to lead a more healthy life it is worth possibly combining with common sense.
O+. It seems strange not knowing your blood type. Like not knowing your drivers license number. Eat right for your blood type is a fad based on as much empirical scientific evidence as mood rings. Mine turned purple, so I must think the diet makes perfect sense.
I myself can't really see how having different antigen markers on your blood cells relates to diet at all. the way we process food has nothing to do with our blood cells. i have no idea what my blood type is... should probably find out one day
Mine is type O. 'O' stands for Oriental, so I'm going to eat a lot of Oriental food. Organic too, come to think of it. .
O Positive, but unless they're recommending a diet based on butter chicken and beer, somehow I doubt I'll follow through. You should donate blood, though. It's like medical Karma. If you ever do get hurt, you'll be happy there is a large supply of none-infected blood ready to pump into your veins.
I would but I can't bare needles at all. I have a huge problem with them, particularly at the dentist.
AB+ it's considered the "modern" blood type. and roughly 3 to 5% of the planet has it. we tend to do best on a veggie diet. i know this to be true for me. i get more sick than normal and anemic when i do eat animal products.
Same here actually, I always feel sick when I eat animal products and I feel much better when I am vegan. Maybe I have AB+
