I was gonna read a few pages of this in the book store, I ended up reading the whole thing. Probably sat in aww for about 2 hours without moving. This is the roadmap to the ultimate self!
the book? it starts out with richard alpert talking about his starting use of psychedelics with tim leary when they worked at harvard together...the first part is a story that explains how and why he went to india, which was in search of finding out how to make the effects of LSD last for longer than a week after use...he went and talked to gurus and finally followed this white guy around and started learning lessons. the middle section is his writing of Eastern thought, aka Be Here Now, in the moment, not in the past, or future, but only here and now, where you always are anyway. the end is various methods for many different thing..yoga, meditation, tantra...etc...
Thanks vibes, sounds interesting. Was definitely an entertaining read, or at least what I've been able to look over so far. I love the William James quote. I'll have to look at this when I'm off work.
yeah i don't get why the OP said read it while on acid...unless we are talking a low dosage, then it could make sense. but even sober, this book /teaching is amazing
