You did the right thing. I think it shows that you were kind of shy and wanted to be respectful of the fact that she was with her mom. I went to get my computer fixed once and the guy that helped me added his number into my computer case. He gave the case back to me, xplained what they did to the computer and then said something like "I added my number just in case you would like to call me and talk sometime" ....or something along those lines. I thought it was really sweet. Now...I didnt call him because I was in a relationship. But, I probably would have called if I hadnt been.
