Running away from batshit crazy parents need advice

I am a 17 year old high school junior in Arizona.

My grades are mediocre but their not abysmal I am still on track to graduate. I also smoke weed a 3-4 times a week. My parents are HUGE Christian fundamentalists and think weed is the devil. Here's the problem because I tend to be rather unlucky sometimes clumsy I have been caught smoking several times by my parents. At first it was just typical grounding. Couldn't leave the house, No TV that kinda deal. But as I got caught more and more it has finally led to them sending me to drug rehab. Yes bullshit. Drug rehab for marijuana. They intend to send me for 3 months to some place in Arkansas. And when I get out they are sending me to my hick cousins in Kentucky to work on their farm. I will be unable to leave and see my friends and again until I turn 18.

At first I somehow came to accept it but then after telling my friend about it he told me his mom would be cool if I just ran away and lived with him. During are planning stages my parents snuck into my room at night took my phone and read my messages. They now know that I intend to stay with them. They are furious but oddly enough they are still leaving me home alone from time to time still giving me a chance to escape.


My question is this. If I still leave to my friends house would they be able to do anything to get me back? My friends mom is willing to lie to my parents to say that Im not there. But if my parents showed the police the text messages I was sending would they be able to get a search warrant to search the house for me?

Staying with my parents and going along with rehab is not an option for me.

I understand what your saying dude but dealing with 3 months of drug rehab THEN having to having to work on a farm for 7 months is pretty shitty.

Whereas If just leaving DOES work I would spend the time at their home studying for a GED. They move to California in august they say its OK if I come along.

All I need to know is what would my parents options be if I did leave. And If someone can convince me that this would not work then I guess I'll just have to deal with it and go to the rehab place but all I need to know is if it is possible for this to work

 

Well first of all, you running away and living with your friends mom sets her up for kidnapping charges.


Especially if she lies of your whereabouts.

And your parents are still your legal guradians,so yes, they can "get you back" and there will be police looking for you.

MY advice- Just stick it out, rehab isnt that bad to risk fucking up the rest of your life, and neither is working on a farm until you are of age, both have the potential to give you some life experiences, and, god forbid, build your character.

bringing in other people is not a good idea, and can get messy. I don't think your friend's mom should lie. If you do run away, don't stay too long cuz that just brings trouble into their home.
If you run away for so long, your parents will call the authorities and you'll probably end up back home in more trouble.

I would just be careful about smoking. do it in places and times where they cannot find out. and keep your grades afloat cuz your parents will get on your case a lot more if they're too low.

 

just be happy you still have your parents house to live in. my dad passed on dec. 2006. i was barely 16. then jan. 2008 the county condemned my house and sent my younger siblings to foster care. me being 17 was left homeless bro. so be grateful for your parents and their warm house. peace, love and free hugs

That sucks dude. My parents are still my parents and I still care about them. But they are extremely misguided.









From what I understand the police will not look for you as long as you leave a note. Is their any truth to this. Factoring it in with me being 17 I dought they would put much effort into finding me as they would say a 13 year old

I understand that there are kids out there who run away because they are abused and no I am not one of them.
However what I am trying to figure out is can I get away with it. And If I can it will make my life a lot easier. Sure I could wait until im 18 but by then I will have lost contact with my friends.



What I forgot to mention was that before I go to my immediate friends house I am sleeping over at 3 other houses which will grind out a weeks time. My parents don't know about these freinds and do not have numbers to contact their parents. I figure by the time that 1st week is up it will be safe to go to my other freinds house.

And I only have to evade my parents for 2 months and then they are moving to California. His mom is a nice smart lady who will allow me to use their home to finish school when I turn 18.

 

And don't you care what this would do to your parents?

 

No. They are extremely ignorant. I don't hate them as they provided me with a place to live my entire life a good education all that good stuff but unfortunately for them I am not going to give in to something this stupid.

I know they will be upset but this chapter in my life is now ending. One day when Im older I will visit them and try to rebuild our relationship.

 

Thats pretty fucked up.


Rehab and farms arent even that bad.

 

I understand dude. Its more so the general idea of them doing something like that makes me want to leave. I will be away from my friends for 9 months. I would live yes but why not take advantage of this if I can get away with it?

That is the question I need answered Can I get away with this?


And If I cant your right Rehab and farms aren't that bad I'll have to put on my big boy pants and deal with it.

 

btw just curious. What is rehab like?

 

I got sent to boarding school when I was sixteen.


I didnt see my friends for a year and a half.

I sucked it up.

I made new friends.

I'm going to be frank with you, you asking the question "can I get away with this?" only shows that you lack personal responsibility and a spine.

So again, My advice to you..

Man up.

And accept the fucking consequences of your actions.

It's weed man, it's not worth fucking your life up this much over. See if you can reason with your parents to get out of the rehab bullshit. Tell them they can drug test you every week and if you are dirty, then you will go to rehab. Of course, this involves you actually quitting.

You say you are 17 so it's not much longer until you can get a job and get your own place or even better, go to college. Be responsible about this situation. Quit the weed for just a little while until you have moved out of your parent's house in a way that doesn't involve you doing something incredibly stupid. Once you are out of there then you can smoke all you want.

 

Won't they find you at your school?
