I'm not opposed to the idea of a stay-at-home mom or anything, I will probably raise a family someday and I'll stay home at least when they are young if we are financially able to make that happen. Although, it will be likely that Charles will be the one staying at home since he works at home anyway.

I'm just a fan of there being a choice. As soon as someone tells me I have to do something, I don't want to do it.

I am baking you a pie right now...

I think that if we had a better sense of community, women would be able to work and they wouldn't have to just pawn off the kids to a daycare. When I was young, my mom worked part-time, but we had a wide circle of friends and family who would look after me, and my mom would look after their kids when they needed help. I think raising kids should be a community effort, not just one woman having to do it all. To me, raising kids by myself seems like a hard life.

And I will definitely require the father to help out, because I feel it is sad when fathers don't spend enough time with their children. My dad spent all his time working and "bringing home the bacon" and now I feel like I barely know him and he barely knows me. I don't want that for my kids.

Exactly. The more people expect me to do something, the more I will refuse to it.

It comes down to personal choice.

    I totally agree.

No one size fits all. Some women are better at what are traditionally men's jobs, and vice versa. There were, I'm sure, no established roles at the beginning of time and if this sexist attitude is readopted society will have taken a major step backwards in my opinion.

You are right, in early societies men and women shared the work. There is plenty of evidence that women hunted, gathered and raised children and invented horticulture, among other things.

That's good to know - thanks antithesis. :) I was sure the very sexist roles that were cemented in people's minds up until recent decades were in place as a result of Biblical influences (among other religious texts).

sounds good to me. Though I am a strong independent woman, I sure would not mind some man paying my way and supporting me mentally and emotionally.

Though I doubt I will ever have a living situation like this because I really have too modern of an upbringing. Whatever works though.

I think the whole idea of someone supporting someone else is just kinda weird. It is naive to expect someone to pay your way... what happens if the man (or woman in your case, BBAD ;) ) leaves and you have no job experience and can't find work? You're fucked, that's what. I don't trust anyone enough to be dependent on them.

My wife took a summer off 4 years ago. It doesn't look like she's going back to work. But you never know.

im a single mummy, ive done it all, raised baby till 6 months (which got thrown in my face by father- for sitting at home and doing nothing while he worked his ass off all day) then i studied, then i worked, and now my daughter is 2 and a half and ive taken the last 6 months off to spend the last time i have with her before she goes back to school. luckily i love in a country where they pay you to be at home if youre a single mum. the govt is my husband at this point. i cant cook for shit. i hate cleaning but i do it. i love being at home with my daughter but its hard and i sometimes would rather be at work so i can get out and be part of society again. im gonna put that down to my age at this point. maybe when the next babies start rolling i will be more homely and domesticated. i have a feeling im still gonna want to go back to work. brian, its up to you my dear- you can stay home and be daddy-daycare.
anyways,,, women in the kitchen? barefoot and pregnant?
show me a man that goes to work, keeps his job, makes enough to support a family on his income and doesnt either smoke, drink or piss his money away. ;) alot of men round here dont like taking on the said 'MAN' roll. just sayn

I think it is a matter of personal choice. As humans evolve it is only natural that our "roles" in society change. Especially roles/stereotypes assigned to us by society itself.
If the woman OR man wants to stay home and raise the kids, if both parties are happy with it, who cares? Personally, I would go crazy at home all day, but I have no children at home to take care of either.
This thread is so long I did not read every single post...but did anyone mention what usually happens to a woman's quality of life if she has no job skills/experience and ends up divorced? Her quality of life is in the toilet! Unless of course she can get alimony and what-not but for the averge person (average $$ wise) that is not going to really help her out. I think all people should be able to take care of themselves. There is still a wage gap between men and women also. This discussion can go on forever....
    To each his own! :)

It is true what they say "Behind every great man is a woman."

The real man provides everything the woman needs or wants.

Everything is provided. If she needs to enrich or better herself through education it is the mans job to pay so the woman can focus on her studies or goals as far as who she wants to be.

But she needs to be willing to be an awesome cook and and take on the duties of managing the house.

She needs to provide enthusiastic blow jobs at the snap of the fingers. She must understand it is her job to sexually please the man at any time.

Men and women are different. But they both have there place.

    :p:D

Heheheh. I'll almost always do the exact opposite of what I'm told. Or at least different enough to piss someone off. I'm conditionally loyal, like a cat. Piss me off off and I won't just leave, I'll piss on your laundry, shit in your shoes and grab my kits by the scruff and stalk off with my tail twitching.

But with just a little petting....

I totally relate to cats too... people find it annoying, but I don't really care!

And now, Unknown American you are just trying to get people riled up the the 'enthusiastic blowjobs' thing! On the other hand... I just gave one to my bf... :p

Clarify? Is the first thing on a womans mind after an 8 hour shift, to go home , get on her knees and suck a dick?

Well it depends on the dick...some you might want to take a nap first, some not. Also...she may not want to be on her knees. :p
