I had an extremely realistic dream that the universe was slowly fading away, and that everything would cease to exist and vanish within the next couple days. It seemed like a regular day, and then news reports came up about dissapearing stars, and that NASA had discovered the planets Jupiter and Mars had completely vanished along with hundreds of stars and other planets, and that other galaxies were half their size and only getting smaller. It was so bizzarly specific and realistic. I was also receiving lectures from my dad about how the world was ending, saying final goodbyes to friends and families, and witnessing stars just simply dissapearing in the sky. If I remember correctly, I think the moon dissapeared just before I woke up. It was so realistic I am toying with the idea it might happen, not that I claim to be psychic or anything. That being said, I think us humans ending the world through warfare or man made damage is far more possible than just the whole universe simply dissapearing.
I believe that right now, we're in the Kali Yuga (the most evil of all times.) Soon, Kalki will enlighten all. And then we'll progress to the golden age.
Oh, and the world doesn't end, is what I'm saying.. It cycles between Yuga to Yuga (or ages to ages.)
The better question is what dies first, Earth or mankind. Considering advances in technolgly the past 100 years. Its not absurd to think that other planets could be habitable one day. At the going rate, Earths fate is pretty much sealed. We can't pave the entire planet, or consume all the resources and not expect to see some ill effects. Mankind will probably die by its own hand. Humans are more violent then other creatures. Our free will, can be our saving grace, or the last nail in our coffins.
When the sun goes Red Giant and swallows up half the solar system.. But really, it will just become part of something different, conservation of matter and energy n what not.
