Does anyone here have any personal experiance with runes? If so could you tell me about it?.... like what you've done with them or seen done with them.... casting/divination and such....
I started using them a while ago.. made them myself etc and still getting used to them. My first experience was a pretty good one.. I wanted a rune to be a 'symbol' of me at that time so I randomly picked one out of the bag and I picked 'ehwaz' which means horse and stands for balance and duality (like the relationship between mankind and horses).. and the typical thing is that at that time I had a lot of dreams with horses in them for no apparent reason (hadn't seen any movies about horses or read books with them in it etc etc).. maybe they are or were at that time my 'totem' animals.. I dunno.. Also.. when I lay 'past-present-future' Tarot cards I usually also take 3 runes to go with the cards, just the get a deeper insight. I did it for a friend of mine a few days ago and although he usually is very sceptical about stuff like that he said is was pretty to the point. So.. yeay
It depends on what the spell is for. Runes can add alot to whatever your are working. Last time I cast a house finding spell, I dressed my candle with runes that represented prosperity and home. The two times I have done this spell, I was most pleased with the results. A passage in my book for shadows is written in a runic alphabet for protection. Runes are mostly used for divination, but the use of these symbols in magic can be quite beneficial. JMHO.
So far, I've only looked up what the letters in my "magickal name" would look like in the runic alphabet and when I sign my name, I just use the three common letters in the order they appear. One means to face challenges and fears which, like many, I've spent my whole life doing and overcoming them eventually even if I get strayed from the path of each one. The other means a standstill, a time to turn inward and wait for things to come, and can also mean illusion and ego-mania. This makes sense because recently, I've began looking inside myself more and seeking improvement and bettering. The other can mean some form of movement, but also means I crave change. It means ideal love and trust too. That makes sense because I'm stuck in a house I often have too many negative thoughts toward with my parents, yet I want to change myself and do what I can for the environment around me and also since I've really made my choice to walk this spiritual path, I've ended up finding a great love in my life! I wonder if it was a past/present/future reading without realizing it... hmm...
I don't own runes but I have had them read for me, it was quite cool, since I'm not all that familiar with that sort of divination
Hmm, so many different interpretations of what the runes mean. Where to start? It's a big issue, which is why I've not yet gotten too serious with my Runic studies. So much on my plate right now. I've got a wife to love, kid to raise, business to run and a Republic to save. I sneak in Rune work as I can. But I digress.... A good place to start would be here: Beliefnet Runes Board Might look around here, as well: Asatru Lore
i got a set of runes for my birthday. ive read the book that comes with them from cover to cover. i think im nearly ready to use them. some of my ancestors were norse/viking.
runes are not toys, and take serious study, in very short though, they are NOT words they are concepts and to use them is to interperete them as concepts, they are very good for training your mind to think conceptualy. it is dificult to explain, but your mind gathers information at a far greater rate than you can concously deal with, it sees patterns and posibilities and when you draw the runes you tap into this. they are best kept personal and privete, not as a side show at a fair, or to impress your freinds
Thanks for the lecture, but imho things like runes and tarot have a different meaning to everyone and can be used according. Some see the results of a drawing as something divine, some see it as a 'non-concidence', others just as a random thing to meditate on.. for some it's very personal and private, others like to take it out to public. It's all about the intention and the feeling as far as I'm concerned and I think that as soon as you start saying 'this is the only way of doing it' you are leaning towards a dogmatism that is not pagan-like.. but hey, just my opinion.
i am going by the teachings of the one who gifted the world with them, i supose that did come off a little lecture like, but so much of his teachings have been twisted and missused i guess i get a little touchy about it
Odhinn, Wotan, Woden, Odin, Grimnir, And so forth. His names are many. I prefer Allfather. He gifted the runes to humanity, but what you get out of them is up to you. As with most things, you will get from them what you put in. If you treat them as a toy, that's what they are. If you seek wisdom, you shall find it. I wouldn't presume to tell anyone how or who to worship. I do encourage srious study, but whatever. What some folks do in the name of Asatru may offend me, but here in America, nobody has a right to not be offended. Ultimately, the only deeds I am responsible for are my own. My deeds reflect upon me, and I really don't care much what others may think of me. There are very few people in this world whose approval I need. I can count them on one hand. With fingers left over.
You might be right. But the fact remains that Milton Bradley makes Runes, Tarot and Ouija Boards. This is not an insult to the beliefs of others, it is a fact.
Absolutely a fact. As I said, what others chooseto do with the runes is not my problem. Like many things, the runes themselves are a nuetral device. They can be used for good, evil, or nuetral acts. It is up to the user.
absolutely agree. What ticked me off though was ..which kinda indicates that there is only one true 'teaching', which apperantly most of us are missusing and twisting unless we do exactly as that 'teaching' tells us to do.. Kinda wondering about that.. what is that 'true teaching' supposed to be?
man you sure read alot into that one line.a way lot. if that ticked you off you must have been looking for a reason to get ticked off. I wonder why?
