Aye, Labour are storming the North East. To be expected really. I'd of thought though that the Lib Dems might of picked up the wandering Labour vote but looks like it's gone blue.

Difficult to tell, though... with all the boundaries being redrawn, there wasn't anything to really compare with.

Last time round, I was in Sunderland North. This time, I was in the new Sunderland Central, which was supposed to be more favourable to the Tories anyway....

And whatever happened to that Lib Dem surge we've been having stuffed down our throats for the last few weeks

No curfew - the polling stations were open 7a.m. to 10 p.m. as they always are. That's 15 hours!

  12. I just arrived in Scotland on Thursday. ( yup, made it after all my "I'm not going to get here" panic). Not to vote because I vote in Spain now and don't feel I have the right to vote in an election in a country where I'm no longer a resident but ,anyway the main reason I'm posting is to tell a small story that I thought was quite funny. Enough with the rambling woman and cut to the chase! My father has always been a died in the wool Conservative and he's convinced I'm a communist. Anything that's not blue is the deepest shade of red imaginable. Anyway I've just dyed my hair red and when I popped in to see father on Friday he was like "Shouldn't that be blue?" obviously cock a hoop about the first results that were coming in. I didn't have the heart to tell the old **** that no, I wasn't sporting red hair in support of my political preferences

But only 65% of those who could vote, actually did. I'm sure I heard someone claim that the turn-out was lower than in the last election.

Maybe you're right... lots of people who've never voted before, all turning up at five to ten...

lol, yeah, that was a bit shocking, that ppl that wanted to vote couldnt...if that is true....it seems a bit strange to me, unless they thought they was onto something good, thinking there was no q's at that time.

i havent seen any official fugures of the turnout, but to me it just seemd like alot of ppl took an intrest...or putting it another way, "was desperateley trying to do something about our current situation.."
i cant see how the big partys still get so many votes...who the hell is voting for them? the comfertable upper and middle classes?
cs i think everyone else is all for giving something alternative a try.
at least it seems that the BNP has lost quite a bit of support. it has finally sunk in, that they are not the way forward with most ppl....

    That's not strictly true.

Many places found the cues began at 6-7-ish, and people couldn't vote from then on. People would leave and return and whatnot.

The result of this vote though, it is a crying shame. I was hoping people would finally be able to see what a mockery Britain has become and try and impose change.

It nearly happened, but not quite.

Where were these places with queues all day ? Must have had massive turnouts. Ours was 57%, just over half of who could have. No queues that I heard of.

But if you listened to the media coverage, you'd think there were only 3 alternatives [and I use the word alternative very loosely]. And even then, both Labour and Tories seemed affronted that the Lib Dems might muscle in on what both seemed to think of as their monopoly. People would need to go looking for other alternatives, and lets face it - most people wont.

Dont think it was even close, to be honest [although perhaps our visions of change differ]. Just glad that the Tories haven't got absolute power... or with a bit of luck, no power at all.
