hey, just thought id see who in the SL does crafts, what kinds, blah blah and all that. the fashion and crafts pages have tumbleweeds, and im worried they'll get stuck in somebody's dreads. so yeah. i crochet, am learning how to knit, i sew, clothing and quilts, i make braided rugs, occasionally i bead and paint. i am also a self taught tatter, but i have to buy a new shuttle. im sure theres other stuff too, i love to craft and make stuff. but i avoid glitter. glitter is the herpes of craft supplies.
Hmmmm i'm not a really "stoner" per se (on the surface) but i love to make earrings and jewlerry with my kids... we make some hemp jewlery and are teaching ourselves different techniques. We also like to paint, we make paintings and i hang them up all on one wall in my home, they are super childish looking verysimple but I like them.
I recently made a lamp out of cardboard, it has 3 main peices and can easily be put together by a 3 year old, and the lampshade is fully customizable to have anything you want illuminated.
I love to weave, bead, make baskets, and appliques. I can make candles, soaps, candy and calligraphy. I was the arts and crafts club president in HS.
i need to learn to weave baskets. i can only do the egg carrying basket kind. we have tons of pines though, so maybe i'll learn how to make them with pine needles.
i do them out of rope and yarn. Great for potholders, laundry baskets, tortilla holders. you can make lids too for them. I wove a 3 foot tallclothes hamper with a lid. so cute.
glitter sucks. i make hemp bracelets and necklaces, as well as twisted bracelets and necklaces out of embroidery floss. i paint occasionally, i did today, just simple watercolors... occasionally i make those simple no-sew blankets out of fleece, but generally i sew things, shirts etc. i add simple thread designs to alot of my plain colored shirts. i like to draw. when i'm bored i braid fabric strips together and wear them as belts haha. i grow alot of plants... i love plants i wish i could blow glass. i'm going to learn how to weld soon. what is tatting? how exactly do you make it taught enough to stand if its made out of rope and yarn? did you use something for the corners/ idk? lol
candles are fun to make too! oz! uses a pringles can, and makes candles that way... i've adopted that way as well. and then i melt waxy crayons and drizzle them on top so its pretty
making kandi (bead bracelets) is my specialty so far. my friends and i have made different kinds of cuffs, necklaces, etc. we just sit in my friends room, stoned and get busy at them. lol my collection thusfar. but these are the ones i've received. well i made some of the singles but the cuffs people made for me.
i'm badass at hemp, though i can't remember how to do the cool ass knots that require 8 or so strings like i used to...gotta find a book that will teach that. i'm learning to knit, but i've only had one lesson...and i'm learning to sew as well, i want to make skirts and stuff, but at this point, i am only on pillows. i am going to save money for a sewing class by the way i LOVE LOVE glitter, but it usually doesn't make it into my projects either and mother of love, i've seen some beautiful braided rugs, any websites help you learn or any tips...i'd love to work on that type of thing as well!
with the braided rugs, i just used a google image search for variations of how to make braided rugs. it takes a minute to achieve even tension, but then once you have enough braid you can start wrapping around. the lacing takes a sec to figure out too, but once you "see" the pattern its soooo easy. a lot easier than parting with the money to buy a braided rug. i use 3 inch strips of fleece, and my biggest rug to date is about 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 ft. tatting is knot and loop tying. you use a little shuttle with a spool and you use it to tie the little knots. think lacy handkerchief edgings and doilies. most people don't tat anymore, but its not hard if you're a crafty person.
I knit. crochet. like to make jewelry. beaded, embroidery floss, hemp. I make CDs for friends with decorated covers. ...and I love glitter.
those cuffs are really cool. is that green and white one an apple cuff? ahhaha i'm really curious how to make those cuffs. i'd do it with nicer beads maybe, although that would jack up the price quite a bit. just as a note, my friend loves your sigpic with the moustashe xD i used to knit, now it evades me. i crochet occasionally, but not as much as i used to, since i have a personal hate for yarn. but glitter is gross to me. i dislike it highly. i've actually seen my grandparents do that! (tatting) i never really thought about what name it might have, but that's really cool! i think i'm going to google the lacing... thanks for the ideas honestly, i've never really needed a book to teach me how to do the more difficult ones, because if you're actually serious about hemping, then its very simple to figure out how to do the 8 stringed ones... its usually single ones, that break into doubles or such.
well you must be more serious than me...sheesh...no learning knots is difficult for me, never been quick with it...soooooooo yeaaaaaaah
i like making embroidery floss bracelets, friendship-bracelets.net is a FANTASTIC site for them. i also just recently learned how to make peruvian bracelets, they take so much less time than your average embroidery floss one and girls tend to like them more (but boys like the reg embroidery ones... figure that one out ??) once i get all the supplies i'm going to start on my mosaic project which i will hang in my dorm room in the fall
i think with knots its about how you see the knots. like you have to understand the structure behind it, what holds the knot in place. and practice. i impressed the navy by beating most of my class at bowline knot tying, an entirely new knot for me. i was so good, they blindfolded me and i could still tie it faster. you have to feel the knots with your brain. or something. im a little toasty. im working on a filet crochet piece now, as well as a crochet poncho, a rug in progress and a small pile of projects waiting. how high do your WiP piles grow?
i love glitter, no matter how messy it gets i paint sometimes, and try to make braclets but i get flustered half way through and give the left to my cat to play with. oh i color taped a hoolah hoop before. that was fun
ou well, no offense intended! but if you think about it the way i do, its really the exact same thing. all you do is move the actual knotting to a different section of the design. its still the same knotting as the single hemp knots. when i use embroidery floss, i just twist them. mine seriously take less than a minute, and people will pay over a dollar for it, when it costs less than 15 cents to make a single one. if you take two or three different colored strands of embroidery floss, and have someone twist to the right, while you twist to the right on the opposite end. when you twist to the correct amount, fold it in half, and tie a knot on the end. they end up looking similar to rope, in the way it's twisted. they're handy, too. because they can be taken off easily too, and they're easy to make if anyone has any questions regarding how to make them, PM me anytime, and i'll explain it better! i'm interested in these peruvian bracelets i like the sound of them... website? i also went to a store in Gurnee, Illinois, in the Gurnee Mall, called Native Crafts. They have different kinds of bracelets, which i've copied designs from recently. Also, The Black Market Mineral Store in Gurnee Mall is also great! They sell very nice beads for VERY cheap. After i went there for my first time, i decided to never go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels again, for favor of this store. I got a bunch of foot long strings of nice stone/metal/etc beads for $2.50, plus they sell all sorts of different handy things for bracelet/jewelry making. interesting. i like to arrange pressed flowers under plates of glass for decoration. people have paid me nice chunks of cash for them too. downside is that it's probably my most expensive craft, since i have to get a specific size of glass and borders and etc. my WiP piles generally dont grow at all, i like to finish a craft before i move onto another one. the closest i come to letting ideas pile up, is not putting end beads on hemp bracelets. glitter is too tacky for me ):
