    FYI, it's spelled "horary".

Horary is not easy, but the rules are a bit simpler than natal. I've seen many experienced astrologers get tripped up with it.

First of all the outer planets don't help much with horary. I don't use them. I just use the original 7. No asteroids either.

You have to use the original meanings of the houses. The modern meanings are better for psychological astrology, but not as good for predicting.

William Lilly's "Christian Astrology" (don't let the name freak you out. Jesus isn't mentioned once) is the best and you can get it for free. However it was written in 1647, so it might be dry. Pretty much all you need to know is in it.

There are a lot of concepts you have to grasp. Horary and all traditional astrology uses a system called "essential dignities" that tell you how strong or weak a planet is. House placement matters. Aspect matter and whether the aspect is applying or separating. All these things are key.

I'd recommend a class. The ones I know are around $300. Lee Lehman and Chris Warnock are the most notable in my opinion. The cool thing about Chris is that he also teaches an astrological magic course. The advantage of the courses are that they start from the bottom and ease you in, AND you'll get a teacher to critique you. I know in Chris' course, most of the homework are real charts with known outcomes. You have to do a lot of reading.

You can try this by yourself, but it's really a lot more difficult. I struggled for a long time.

So basically download Christian Astrology. It's in 3 books. Read books 1 and 2. Otherwise pick up Lee Lehman's "The Martial Art of Horary", though I think you have to have some astrological knowledge first.

Here's a reading I did recently. The question was from a guy who's taking a long vacation in July and is worried that he won't have his job when he returns.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question: Will I still have the job in September?

Time and place the question was received and understood: Apr 22, 2010 5:41:45pm Seattle, Wa

The ascendant is at 06Libra42 and the planetary hour ruler is the Sun. The Sun and Libra have no elemental agreement, and thus the chart isn't radical, but we may judge regardless.

As Libra rises, you are represented by Venus who is in the 8th house dignified by rulership and triplicity. Venus is making an applying square with the Moon, a separating sextile with Jupiter, and an applying trine with Saturn.

The job is represented by the tenth house at 08Cancer19 ruled by the Moon in the 11th house who is peregrine. The Moon is making an applying trine with the Sun, a separating square with Mercury, and an applying square with Venus.

The first thing to consider is the primary aspect between the significators of you and the job. The job (the Moon) is making an applying square with you (Venus). This implies that yes you will have the job, but there will be a conflict about it. In the end the conflict will be resolved. Since the Moon is applying to Venus, it implies the job will reconcile with you. I suspect this will be something that will kind of "blow up", but won't amount to much. Someone from work will smooth things over with you - likely a female.

Regarding your situation, Venus is in the 8th house. This usually shows some kind of mental anguish over the matter at hand. Venus was recently conjunct Mercury, the ruler of the 9th house which rules travel, and is about to enter that house. Your mind is definitely on the vacation.

Venus is very strong though. Both the ASC and 10th are in cardinal signs which imply a new beginning or reboot regarding your job.
