My HP's had this overheating problem for 6-odd years. 4 HDs fried. I couldn't even back up my work information. Two days ago, when I taking a dump with it on my lap, it went poof. Took it to the best shop in town. Zach, on the other side of the highway. Bingo, he said it was overheating (as I'd suspected all along). He switches the thermal patch...tested it for two days and no overheating. It's done! I decided to pick it up tomorrow because I have to go into work at 1pm EST (and it's now 9am EST). I have a cold. I think I'll just pick it up tomorrow. Have I made a good decision
I fried four HDs before I figured out what the fuck was happening! I still got all this data to back up! HP sucks, btw. It really does...don't buy HPs.
Get a cooling dock. When my last laptop took a dump, it was overheating so badly that I could transfer files. Finally, I stuck it in the freezer and ran the cords out to offload things onto an external. It barely worked.
I have a Dell and it's overheating too.....think I may go with Apple next time. Glad you figured it out.
