a bit of a weird question, but how much, if any, permanent damage do you think smoking a joint a day does, compared to the same amount of tobacco? i only plan on smoking through college, so about 5 years from now i intend to quit, shohld i have any long term/permanent damage to my lungs or anything after that point?
You will have damage to the cilia of your lungs, but not because of some property of THC, but because you're inhaling burnt plant matter (smoke) into your lungs; however, when you compare cigarettes to joints, a joint a day is much less than a pack of cigs a day. So minimal damage. Brain-wise, I wouldn't say any permanent damage, unless you develop some mental disorder which is HIGHLY UNLIKELY, but you will have a reduced short-term memory throughout college. I myself take breaks about a week or two before exams, etc. It does make doing assignments throughout the term a little harder then if you never smoked, but you'll get through it Edit: Oh and you will probably end up increasing your dosage from 1 a day to a bit more. I know you think you won't, but there is a slight psychological addiction factor that comes into play, and a tolerance factor too. You will definitely end up smoking more if you find a lot of friends there that blaze too.
i actually smoke 2 - 5 one hitters a day(actually like 4 hits, but wtf else do i call a one hitter?) much less than a joint, but when i get some extra cash i might have enough to smoke a joint a day. i always smoke, and get paranoiud about me causing cancer in myself years down the road, or ill get a weird feeling in my chest and thin''holy shit my lungs are fucked up'' cos ive been smoking for like a year and a half, daily, with a few days without smoking here and there. every once in a while ill stop for a few weeks, but not a lot.
I'm convinced smoking doesn't really cause all that much damage unless it's a constant thing, though if you have to ask this maybe weed isn't for you... Lung cancer is always possible, even to non-smokers, so smoking obviously just raises your chances.
I have to ask, if you're planning on quitting and worried about the health risks, why start? Inhaling smoke is bad for you. You'll probably increase consumption due to tolerance and the fact that smoking is fun. I don't know that you can quantify how bad it is. Marijuana has been proven not to have near the levels of carcinogens that cigarette do, but the burning plant matter is carcinogenic(so is BBQ food). One joint has less burning material than a cigarette, if that puts it into perspective. I'd say its similiar to living with 2nd hand smoke.
well, another question, is vaporization really healthier? because i was considering only vaping, i love weed but i also care about my health. i have enough saved to order a volcano, i think it would be worth it regardless, but i would vaporize 100% of the time if its really significantly more healthy
yes, go ahead and get the Volcano. i got one a few years ago and it was one of the best purchases i've ever made. it pretty much pays for itself after a while. it's SUPER efficient. you will use way less weed to get a lot higher than you would have if you smoked that same amount. plus you can save the remains to make butter. i've been an everyday "smoker" (i do vaporize a lot, too) for years now. probably 6-7 years. and that started when i was in college. by the time i was in my final year of school, i was smoking every day (usually NOT before class) and i still graduated cum laude. i would do things like write a paper sober, then go back to it when i was high to critique it and make changes. got A's on pretty much every one. so at least for me, weed was helpful during school. and it's a great stress-reducer when it becomes overwhelming. you just need to figure out the best way it works for you. set some boundaries for yourself with school and when/how you get high. and just to reiterate, GET A VOLCANO. you'll be glad you did (and so will all your friends!) to give you an idea of the health benefits, it's great if you're ever sick with a cold. especially a cough. you can vaporize all day long while still having a cough and it wont really irritate it. but if you were to take just one hit of smoke, it'd be the worst thing for you. once you start smoking/vaporizing, you'll notice the effects of each. then you can decide if it's ok to get high in the ways that you want. besides, you can always make weed-butter and just eat it.
a vaporizer is worth it. but don't get the volcano. get the Arizer Extreme Q. it's $220 on ebay (i can' give you a great vendor's email if you're interested) vs. ~$600 for a volcano. this can do exactly what the volcano does, and more. if ANYONE is getting a vape - get the Arizer Extreme! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290419645888&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
ordering a volcano sometime this week. have there been any studies on vaping vs burning tobacco or weed? i wonder how much healthier it actually is, with vaping is the gas basically 100% of the active chemical in whatever you burn in it, and can you even smoke tobacco at all out of it? i like to smoke but not enough to risk lung damages long term, so a vape seems like it would be the best choice.
Neither 1 cigarette a day for your whole life nor 1 joint a day for your whole life will cause any permanent damage. Nope. Permanent lung damage from cigarettes occurs after approximately 20 'pack years', with one 'pack year' defined as 1 pack per day for a whole year. Smoking is not as harmful as we are taught . . . 99% of the damage reverses quite quickly and amounts to no more than light tissue damage.
so, if smoking a small ammount, vaporizing seems like it would be infinitely healthier. but does the qaulity of the vaporizer really matter? there are some for like 145 at my head shop, would that be worth it or would it be a pieceof shit? lol does the vapor reek like weed? and am i correct in thinking that the vapor you get from it is 100% thc, or nicotine, or whatever is in the herb youre smoking and im not worried so much as tissue damage or whatever, as i am that any burning plant matter has potential to cause cancer if im not mistaken, so being exposed to that for years cant be good. however, if when you vape its all thc, there doesnt seam to be any adverse effect on any part of your body regardless of the amount you smoke.
the vapor is not 100% THC. it is probably more like 4% THC, 95.5% air, and 0.5% harmful chemicals or plant matter from vaping at a high temperature. it is thought to be much less harmful than actual smoking though. i've used a volcano and a cheaper ~$150 one called Vapir (sucked) and the arizer extreme which i *highly* recommend. i promise it's better than the volcano and i'm pretty sure much cheaper
i've said it before, and i'll say it again: every single time i use the volcano i think it was a great purchase. not once have i regretted spending over $400 for it (got it used on ebay, $440 total with shipping). i've used a few other kinds of vaporizers, and nothing comes close to the volcano. it will pay for itself eventually. you'll get your money back in efficiency: you can vaporize the weed once, you can save up the remains to make butter, you can re-vaporize the weed you've been collecting if you're out and you'll still get pretty high, you can scrape the resin that builds up in the valve and smear it on weed (vapor-resin is not at all like smoke-resin), and you can vaporize/smoke the THC crystals in your grinder (which you should be using with any vaporizer). plus you use less weed in the first place to get way higher than you could have smoking it. whenever friends come over and everyone's throwin' down to vaporize, it usually works out that no one else wants any more (cause they're too stoned) yet i'm still sitting there fillin' up bags of vapor. it consistently gets myself and most people i know TOO HIGH. which is awesome.
