Hey gang, I pierced my own septum yesterday. I had been wanting it for a while, and i started reading up on it a few days ago. I went on ebay and bought an autoclaved 14g needle, but i was impatient so i did it before the needle arrived. I used a brand new nail. I cleaned and 'sterilized' it the best i could, using rubbing alcohol as well as fire. Other than that part and some minor technical difficulties it went pretty well. What i am posting for is because 1 or 2 people told me that i pierced it in the wrong spot. I found the "Sweet spot" and it came out straight and all. I pierced it almost exactly in the middle of my nose. The 2 people who told me i did it wrong said it was supposed to go near the top of your nose. Does this really matter at all? I can take a picture if necessary, thanks.
^^^DITTO Somethings to consider: 14 gauge is pretty thin and can lead to the "cheese cutter" effect. Just be careful with it. The nail "pushed" its way through whereas a piercing needle would take a cookie cutter piece of tissue. The needle would cause much less trauma and put less pressure on the piercing, making it less likely to migrate. If you have problems healing, you might want to take it out and do it right.
alright, thanks a lot for the replies. It's been two days and so far i've had no problems with it, but does the positioning of it really matter? I.E near the top of my nose, as compared to the middle? or is it just preferance. Anyway if anything goes wrong, i'll just take it out and get it done correctly.
Just go with it man, there is no 'right' placement for piercing - if you like the placement then keep it. I've pierced myself multiple times and never had a problem, just keep that sucker clean. That said - I know little about septum piercing, does it go through the cartlidge or the flesh below? Cartlidge self piercing will throw more problems your way.
ouuucchh i could never pierce myself... i dont like to hurt myself... i just wouldnt be able to go threw with it.. i get a piercer to do mine instead... its quicker and less painful ..
I also pierced my own septum about 5years ago now. If you use the correct tools and have everything clean there isn't a problem with doing it yourself. And the placement is up to you! If you like the way it looks leave it in.. if not take it out and let it heal and do it in a different spot.
