I've been going for real thin dreads for some time...the back has knotted up almost all the way, but the front and sides are taking their time...I'm trying to keep the dreads real thin, so do you guys recommend ripping them apart once they start congoing with a nearby dread, or should I just let them knot with each other and only separate them when I absolutely have to?
the longer you leave the, the harder they will be to rip, if you let them have too long they can completely mat together and you'll have to cut them to get them apart.
I had a feeling this might not be fully understood..what I mean is: will my hair dread faster if I leave them in a state of congoing, or does it not slow them down to separate of the bat?
They will dread fastest if you let them do their thing, and you barely ever rip at all. Thing is then you will have fattys, which isnt what you want, so I would rip early.
I keep mine separated whenever I feel even one hair crossing the 'dread to dread' barrier. I don't do this for aesthetic purposes, but instead it gets uncomfy for me and I like to run my fingers through my dreads. So, if you do one hair at a time, it won't slow the process of your dreads. I don't think ripping will hinder your process at all really. So, if you do want them separated, just feel around now and again for any hairs that are crossing the barrieerrrrr
