I think it's awesome. But I've always been fascinated by space, so any kind of further exploration excites me.
A noble quest Perhaps he’s out to prove Richard Hoagland’s assertion that human life began on mars eons ago (in his book monuments of mars) and when the atmosphere went sour humans traveled and settled on the planet earth. Turning Louis Leakey’s "Out of Africa" theory on its head with his own "Out of Mars" theory Hotwater
According to scientists we'll have at least doubled the life expectancy of the average human within the next 4-5 years so once we figure that out we'll look for a place to live after our planet dies. However, we don't necessarily have to go to space, we could just as easily go into the ocean. But man's fascination with the stars is far too great to start with something we think we already know. Therefor, humans going to Mars is no surprise to me. Plus, space? SICK!
Has anyone read Arthur C. Clarke's essay :'Why man will never conquer space'? I suggest anyone interested in space, the future, and space travel do so.
Pleh, it's a good idea. But the privatization might make a mockery of space travel. These people ultimately want to billionaire oil tycoons in space. Considering the limited resources for space travel (thanks for atomic radioactivity), as long as this trip is for the right reasons then I see no problem with it. I love the science of space and it's certainly something I am interested in seeing happen.
You could not be more right my friend. Not only will the middle of the twenty-first century see great advances in space travel. It will also see the disgusting effects of colonialism due to those few greedy individuals whose thumbs we are always under.
Oh oh, sorry, misunderstanding. He discusses how we'll never be able to conquer space because despite the great technology that we may will develop in the coming hundreds of years (if we make it that far) we'll still not be able to travel in space due to the massive distances between things. He discusses how communication will pretty well not be possible also.
We've already made something travel light speed though. It's just transferring that to a larger scale. Communication is a matter of some sort of radio towers in space set up around space. Or something. I mean, uh, satellite, yeah, those radio tower space things
But even then it would take years travel to the nearest star system, and the same amount of time to send radio transmissions (assuming we're talking about the speed of light).
Well there must be some life form out there that can travel like, BAM! There. But then again, humans are stupid.
