If you are happy to go to war and kill people for a living, then you shouldn't be surprised when something happens to you. Yeah, I think joining the military is stupid.
Been there. Done that. Wouldn't wish the experience on my worst enemy. It didn't fix me. It didn't make me a better person and yes when you get done with training you are a completely different person depending on the MOS you choose to get your training for. In my MOS it indeed was all about weapons and killing. That's what I was trained to do. Of course I hear training has changed in a big way since I've left the military. They've really pussified it. But wouldn't that increase the chances that everybody in there is going to do their own thing and be less adept at saving your ass when you need them to? Or vice versa... Would you be able to live with that shit on your shoulders? Somebody's dead because you didn't know what the fuck you were doing when you got there? Other people's lives are effected by your decision to ultimately fuck up your life. The only difference now, I assume, would be that no body is counting on you the way your life is now. So if you make this decision, think about all the soldiers you would become responsible for...
My opinion is I hate war so so much! My fiance, is in the marines, and we differ on a bunch of things. but one thing we do agree on, is that iraq was a mistake, and that he doesnt want to stay in. He spent 8 years when he is done, and they didnt give him the college they said they would, they gave him ptsd badly, bc of the war he was in, and they really didnt do much to advance him in life. And personally I am sick and tired of the way they treat their soldiers, it is really disgusting. they get injured they just get discharged without any help, if they have ptsd they dont get treatment. and not to mention I do think his opinion of war now has changed, he is no longer in support of it. I never thought I would be with someone in the military, but I am, and I can not help who I love. But him and I both are counting down the days till he gets out. Bc I am a pacifist, and not pro-military. and him bc they really did not give him anything good, and what he saw over there, just was outright an mind changer.
I would REALLY prefer that people NOT fight for my "freedom" by killing innocent people for the enrichment of huge insensate corporations. I would prefer not to have any freedom that is obtained in that manner. There are so many ways that we could better spend 700 billion dollars a year.
i've met some great people and made some great friends but i'm leaving with more bad habits then i came in with.
i think the warrior spirit is in our nature - a political govt is not , and they offer a very disrespectful contract . a (u.s.)govt soldier is a contract slave . so ... what's to do ... be a warrior for peace . get sophisticated . love people and do what a warrior spirit does naturally . choose your battles with a sense of immediate reality . loving the govt is to get it in the ass . ya for gays in the military . lower the public govt flag to half-mast until govt war is done . there's plenty of sorrows every day . choose how to honor your warrior spirit . it's not good to leave this dangling ... it can leave a bad feeling in old age .
i dont think anybody is really happy to kill people and see horrible things. i dont want to but playing with all that fancy machinery is kinda appealing to me and i know i'm smart enough to not be sent straight to frontline infantry, i'm a natural leader. idk i dont plan on signing up anytime soon anyway. college is plan A for me, if i don't get any sufficient scholarships or grants to attend a university the millitary is my plan B.
i support Chainz on this issue. the military is absolutely necessary with the current state of affairs. it is better to be prepared and have the military capacity to defend your own population. terrorists are justifying acts of evil with religion. i thought the whole purpose of religion was to give folks an idea on how to live life decently. of course, i am not against trying to talk peace with the enemy, but never with your back exposed. anti-war supporters will take this simple statement and counter with something like "how can you talk peace with the enemy as you spill their blood" well, terrorists are spilling the blood of our people. the government had no choice but to retaliate. you cant let shit like that slide.
"How was school today dear?" "It was stupid. Noura hit me again!" "Did you hit her back?" "I KILLED HER. AND HER ENTIRE FAMILY!"
leaving it once you iz in = freedom . a couple times i've met awol soldiers on the run who have openly spoken of their angst . where can they go ? deep into the woods beyond identity ? they feel hopeless and yet go on . their flag is at half-mast forever .
Unless there's a grenade knockin' about, I really can't see anybody staying together for too long under those sort of circumstances.
this is kinda like the age old question about the glass is half full or half empty the militairy is a good thing for some people and not so good a thing for other people! good luck on your decision, but be advised you really are signing a deal with the real devil this time!!
No joining the military is not stupid. Sometimes it is necessary for a country to defend itself and without a military this would be next to impossible.
