so im building a new sprout box thats going to 2x2x4ft and i got to thinking about lighting and i came across this:http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=290811&f=218 and in the graph i noticed that the second peak is around 6000k, and i got to thinking about it and realized that the hid for automotive apps are the same, and i could get a set of 6000k off of ebay for less then $100. while a full HPS light is about 250w a set of hids are 70w, if i ran them off of a 10 amp 12v batter charger and a timer it would save on the power bill, and cut down on the heat in the box. and as long as i kept the light close enough to the sprouts it should work right?
you couldnt use halogen lamps from cars if thats what your asking? While they will sprout and all, the lamps spectrum will fry them like a microwave oven. In theory light is microwaves and you want the proper kind to grow marijuana. if I understand correctly.
hid lamps and halogen lamps are too different lamps, halogen lamps are a filament style while hids are more like mh lamps, just smaller and you can get them in different color temps
Ya know, I used nothing but 100W equivalent (13W actual consumption) Daylight CFL bulbs by GE for an 8'x8' room, had about 6 hung from the ceilling. Grew Tobacco, Datura, some squash and a few other things. GRANTED the growth rate could have been better but all the plants were healthy and would have probably done allot better with just a couple more bulbs. So 104 real Watts of CFL grow spectrum lighting at around $7 per 2 bulbs,,, For an 8'x8' room no less,,, :cheers2:
i found some pictures online of the different lamps. the hid is on the left, the halogen is on the right
yep i read it and quoted it. and in the chlorophyll activity chart the highest peak is with 5500k light with the second peak being around 6000k, and the 6000k lights are what im looking at.
Indoor growing, Like life, is one big experiment. Ya never knows what might work for you till ya try!>) Who knows, Necc. ya might be on to something, if ya get a crop out of it and work out a viable energy source thats cheaper than HIDs... you might have the next big thing! I say, if Tom Edison never invented the light bulb, where would indoor growing be today?>)
