I hope they do. What about backlash and what will the other states think? I just want to know what you think will happen nationally. I think some states will follow suit, then some state will be dicks and raise hell about it cough*Texas*cough. The federal goverment might black mail california by pulling funding and other gay shit they do.
I don't think Texans will actually be the big ones complaining, they're one of the highest percentage of pot users in the US
Not the texas people the governing body that runs texas because doesn't texas have like the harshest marijuana laws? the reason i bring up federal funding, is because thats how they keep the drinking age at 21. States could lower their drinking age if they wanted to but if they did they would lose funding for roads. Which is like blackmail.
^^ LOL. Personally, I do think some other state may follow suit but I would think they will want to see how the experiment is going. I don't think that Barack will make a "federal" case about it but that could all change in two years with the next election. Who knows. All speculation at this point.
Ya, we'll get to see what's more important to Obama, the truth that weed is not a dangerous drug and laws concerning it should be decided by each state individually, or getting re-elected in 2012.
it really just depends where you are here in tx...some places are more liberal than others. i do believe arizona and nevada have some of the harshest laws/penalties towards pot....but, texas legislature is gonna be hard to convince to legalize/decriminalize it, considering those in power are all old school right wing stubborn ass, shriveled up prunes....
It would be so awesome if weed got legalized in texas! Then i definatly wouldn't go back. haha. My brother said the cops in Austin are really relaxed when it comes to weed.
oh god yes!! when i was in high school, me and my friend kenny were skipping, chillen in a pretty secluded spot in zilker park smokin a joint, and we passed by a cop while kenny was holding it. the cop stopped us and asked us what the hell we were doing skipping school, and went on and on about how we should stay in school blah blah blah, and he saw the half-j kenny was holding, then just said "yall need to get back to school." and left. didn't even give two shits about the joint, it was really really cool...good times, good times...
I went to a roof party in Austin last fall, a couple cops showed up and kind of stayed around to keep order. People were smoking right in front of them, they didn't care at all. It was pretty cool, but not that surprising. It is definitely a unique place.
funding will definitely be pulled for CA because "pot will make road travel dangerous" and thus the feds don't want to be funding "dangerous roads"
California will soon be overpopulated, causing it to drift out of the country and then be renamed marijuana land....It's part of the whole plan
i was reading an article about that. come to find out it still mite be awhile before they legalize it some people are all concerned about it being a "gate way drug" and what they should do about people smokeing it and driving on it. i personally think they should just hurry up and legalize it every where but i also think ur rite some states will some wont for a long time anyways and the goverment is gona use it against them.
It's just Disney news, not real news, but here's an article from ABC A couple highlights: "A new nationwide poll by Pew Research Center suggests that opponents of legalized pot still comprise the majority (52 percent), and include the usual suspects: older Americans, conservatives and mothers of teenagers." "In an ironic twist, some of the more strident opponents to the legalization of marijuana are less likely to speak out -- the people who grow it illegally today. Once the black market is made legitimate, growers stand to see their prices drop. "It's been disappointing to see people more concerned with their personal well-being than what's good for society," says Lee, the man behind the initiative. "I got into it to stop the violence and get better law enforcement." Lee already makes his living from the weed. The Oakland, Calif., man's business is pot, from his coffee house selling medical marijuana, to his trade school for marijuana growers, Oaksterdam University. Though he spent $1 million getting the question onto November's ballot, the fight is far from over. Lee puts the odds at "50-50" for whether his state votes to legalize pot, or whether his dreams go up in smoke."
lol this is what I see happening unless the rest of the states get on the ball! it's already decriminalized in what, 20 or so states? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Map-of-US-state-cannabis-laws.svg honestly if CA legalized it, the rest of the states will follow eventually. this of course taking into consideration HOW they handle it.... only time will tell I suppose.
I'm sorry, I had to reply again. According to the link that Wanderingturnup posted, opponents of legalized pot: old people mothers of teenagers dealers conservatives. Older folks (ages.... 60+ I guess?) have been fed this propaganda about how pot is a "gateway drug" and how they will hallucinate and microwave their babies whilst high, all their lives ("Reefer Madness" anyone?). That's the government-controlled press' fault. And they will die off soon so we shouldn't be too worried about them lol. Mothers of teenagers should know that teenagers like to experiment, and pot is a better way to do this than, say, crack or pills. So I suggest that they read up about weed, which is what everyone should do anyway, since it's such a big controversy in this country. Dealers would need to find a new hustle if pot were legalized. It's one thing to provide folks with the good green, it's another to try and make a living off of it. Hustlers will be hustlers, but if a supplier of the herb were really passionate about it, perhaps they could find a way to dispense it legally? Conservatives just need to live and let live. The "Drugz r bad mmmkay" approach just does not work. These are the same people who say gay people cannot marry each other and I strongly disagree with their view of the world but hey, they vote and I can't stop them. I just wish they had more empathy. Anyway that is my 10 cents. I just hope this country won't arrest me for smoking a joint. That's it. Peace!
