Dogs will always be with you...and here is one of my favorite poems which proves the point. And Death Shall Have No Dominion Dead men naked they shall be one With the man in the wind and the west moon; When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone, They shall have stars at elbow and foot; Though they go mad they shall be sane, Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again; Though lovers be lost love shall not; And death shall have no dominion. And death shall have no dominion. Under the windings of the sea They lying long shall not die windily; Twisting on racks when sinews give way, Strapped to a wheel, yet they shall not break; Faith in their hands shall snap in two, And the unicorn evils run them through; Split all ends up they shan’t crack; And death shall have no dominion. And death shall have no dominion. No more may gulls cry at their ears Or waves break loud on the seashores; Where blew a flower may a flower no more Lift its head to the blows of the rain; Though they be mad and dead as nails, Heads of the characters hammer through daisies; Break in the sun till the sun breaks down, And death shall have no dominion. -Michelle Malkin If not for the everlasting permanence of loving dogs, loving women (not necessarily in that order) and the open wilderness, untainted by progress, we true beings of the American southwest would be truly lost in place, time and space; which is all too possible and a reflection of a separate reality. -Toby Stanley As my Mom would tell me often as I was growing up--there is nothing so special and better in this world than a "warm puppy".
Looks vaguely similar to the country I'm in at the moment. They are building a big coal mine up the road which really pisses me off because the land I'm living in took 100 million years to create and they want to screw it for a few dollars. Anyway reckon I should appreciate what I got. You seem to have it worked out really good though I don't really know much about the countryside you are in but the photos you have posted make the place look really great place to live. I reckon I may have to travel half way around the world to check out such good scenery. I live in a humpy on and off which I think is ok but I think the problem is that in Oz, if you go too far out of town, all you have to deal with is the kangaroos and the snakes which aren't that entertaining. I have thought about a dog on occasions but I'd like to think that a dog would like to live with me before putting it through the stress. Anyway mate, you have a good blog thing going here and wish you all the best. Russ
Hey Brother 2 Dogs, I have been keeping up with your post and forums for a rather long time. Finally, at the end of this week, I am headed to Phoenix. I would love to come up to the valley some time this year and meet up with you and see some of these awesome places you get to see and have taken pics off. I want to write about my travels/lifestyle to help inspire others, just like you have done. I will share the site and some pics of my van when I get it all put together. Take care and God Bless, Bernie
Thanks dude. He's a funny boy. It's starting to warm up a bit but that doesn't bother me too much. I can always park higher up in the mountains.
Rusty, I see a lot of that kind of thing out here...old open pit mines and such. It used to bother me a bit, but now I just can't help but think of all the people that those places fed. Sure...it's pretty tough on Mother Nature and all, but the desert here in AZ. would still be unoccupied (edited to add: NOT unoccupied...the Native Americans would maybe still have been here if this was John Lennon's world and not Man's.) if it wasn't for the raw materials found here many years ago. I wouldn't be here enjoying the untouched 95% that's left. I love nature, believe me, but the natural resources made this country great and I guess that you have to live with the trade-off.
Bernie, let me know way in advance of when you'd like to travel up this way. I'm only around a computer about once a month now and will need notice.
Well people...it's been an active month for me and my canine crew. Went prospecting for a bit without much luck. We drove out into new territory and walked every wash and hilltop in the surrounding area. It was a blast. I put 70 or 80 miles on my cheap Wal-Mart boots. The wash was running with snowmelt on one of the claims. Smart dogs look both ways before crossing the street.
Look at what I found! Looks to be about 2300 to 2700 feet of 5/8 twisted stainless steel cable. Probably fell from one of the power company trucks and rolled down into the wash when they were out here redoing the power poles. Puppies sacked out after a long walk. Skwert living up to his name.
Highlights from 2 weeks of exploration. The first pic is of a sign 1 1/4 mile farther out the road I drove from where I parked.
