Only 30 days to go till I'm on the ground and smoking up Mokem. See you all soon. Hey Mike how's the boat coming? Any luck yet? I'm thinking I may rent a bike this year but I'm not to sure I'd hate to get run over in Amsterdam that would definitely be a bummer. I'e already broke a rib in Mokem, got pneumonia and blown a knee there all I need is to crash a bike. I just may stick to chewing gum and walking.lol

Still looking for a boat for our annual queens day cruise but so far I only found one that was too small and another that was to big and expensive. We still have Kees and another friend of mine looking for us. If we have one we'll have it for 2-3 hours 12p-3p and then the houseboat party begins at 4ish...

    Hoi Wild-Flowers,

We are a group of fun loving travelers who visit amsterdam yearly. Typically for the last week of April and the first week of May. If you will be in town at that time (or live in town) and care to meet up for a drink or smoke and a chat let us know!

    Regards,
    Koopa

Well it finally hit the low 60's in Mokem. Maybe we will hit the 70's soon. I'm hoping for good weather for Q-Day 2010 just like 2009 and 2007. Nothing like 2008 I hope.

Well I have managed to get a boat for Queens day this year. Costs 200 euros an hour and seats 12 plus captain and is a 7.5 meter metal life boat. We'll be cruising into orange mayhem starting at 2p till 4p unless we decide to extend the madness if we choose. Of course pre-cruise lunch cocktails will be in order for those who show up around noon to help decorate the houseboat and cruise boat for the festivities. Orange overload this year, were sure to have loads of fun as usual!

Garbage collectors on strike for a week in Amsterdam, starting Queen's Day

Starting Friday, April 30, the garbage collectors in Amsterdam will go on strike for a week.

The work will be laid down for better wages.

The strike will cause major inconvenience, because it starts on Queen's Day. This is one of Amsterdam's biggest street parties. Officially it is to celebrate the Queen's birthday. On this day, everyone is allowed to have a street sale without a license, and there are many festivities in the streets. Queen's Day in Amsterdam attracts about half a million visitors each year.

These visitors leave behind a substantial amount of garbage: the downtown area will be covered with a layer of litter, here and there.

The strike is not completely certain yet, as the city of Amsterdam might decide to take the unions to court about it.

The strikers have announced they will in any case clean the Dam Square area around May 4, which is the national commemoration of the World War II victims.

Only 15 days and I'll be sitting at Basjoe's smoking a fatty. I'm glad all the usual suspects will be attending again. It seems all my dreams are consumed with Amsterdam themes here lately. With that garbage strike it's going to be a bit messy after Q-Day they have timed it for maximum effect I see. See you all soon amigos. oh by the way what's the count so far is it a full boat yet?

Mike O. comes through once again... Right ON Mike!!! Really appreciate your making things happen with the cruise. 2 hours @ €400 sounds fantastic, as does the time frame. Putting the finishing touches on the Queensday Playlist for the iPod.

2 weeks from today and we'll be IN Amsterdam! Can't wait to see what kind of "crew" we end up with this year.
