Just a culture difference Ruski. Many women in China, even into their late 20s, love big teddy bears. I see them with them all the time. I gag at that gift too, but it is what women like here. Thankfully, she was honest and said she did not much care for it. Good, actually. But at least I tried to do something thoughtful based on what I noticed. Also, all the other gifts were based on what I KNEW she liked, and what she had said (like the scarf based off of her love of my green winter scarf)

So..

Earrings/scarf = good.
Great wall of China adventure- awesome
went to a Persian restaurant for dinner, and also an Indian restaurant for another meal = good!

I think I was successful overall

But why would a simple green scarf or earrings make you vomit? Are you too demanding?? I mean, a cd makes you vomit?

 

demanding? no. i would prefer a walk somewhere nice than a pair of earrings. seems more meaningful to me. that stuff just seems corny to me... not my thing. no worries though, if that's what she likes.

 

If she is a sentimental type of person, give her a keepsake box, you could always put that CD you make in it. She can continue to add to the box for the rest of her life.

To answer your question, I like gifts with thought, I dont care if its homemade or what.

 

I haven't gotten a birthday gift in a really loooooong time. I'd be happy with any of those gifts!

 

a gun. I'm think a ppk, or an SKS.... the latter would probably be easier to find in that part of the world.

I got a huuuuge teddy bear for Valentine's Day. It was too creepy and very pointless, so I gave it away to a three year old kid.

 

yeah. i'm not a toddler. that sorta stuff always fell short of the mark.

dave has developed a tradition: the period preparedness pack. alcohol, comfort food, chocolate and some flowers. he's golden, even when he can't get it done.
