Hey everyone.... I'm a one man band...and for a while now, I've wanted to record my own version of "If You Want To Sing Out" by Cat Stevens. I have two ways in mind to do it....either I make it the same style as the original version (which gives it a "free" feeling), or I speed it up and give it more of a fast punkish sound... ...Which style do you think would sound best? opinions? =)
Is this the song ? I dont rate it, I'm afraid, so my advice would be dont do it at all However... seems like the sort of song that you cant really change very much anyway, probably a "punk" version wouldn't work very well. Add some percussion and restructure around that perhaps ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDq36YD1ESM"]YouTube- Cat Stevens - If you want to sing out
Quick and punky would work, I hear it. I mean there's aren't so many chords so you can just whack it down with a few power chords and some quick drums. Personally, I believe you should just do it however Cat Stevens hasn't done it. Whether that's punk, jazz, electro- make it your own! I have done some weird cover versions in my time. My personal favourite was a slow electro class version of Lullaby by The Cure. Happy playing!
