So, i'm finally pulling my finger out and am about to stop procrastinating and wasting my time floating between dead end jobs and i'm going to go travelling. I've been looking into volunteering overseas, specifically in conservation and working with animals. has anyone done it and have any pointers or anyone wanting to do it (in which case, come with me!!) ??? I'm going to spend probably the next six months saving up which is probably going to mean moving back home to the folks come the end of the 6 months work, selling up a load of my stuff for further funding and then heading out. probably initially just for 3-6 months of volunteering and then might do another 6-9 just travelling. i think its about time i did something like this, it may be a bit of a cliche to go off travelling to find yourself, but the volunteering side i think could help to getting a job in conservation, so it does have a slightly productive element to it. also, anyone got any recommeded destinations?
i will be following this thread with intrest, because i have been thinking about doing some volenteering. i have been down to the local velenteer centre, but they wasnt of much help really...saying i have to wait a month, just for an interview. where else can you get information on the matter? is there any websites etc?
do you want to volunteer in the UK or overseas, and in what field? ive got some good links on my laptop, which i can give you when i get back home in a week.
There are loads of gap year organisations around...but they cost thousands of pounds and are in some cases more of hindrance to the community or area that you are working with than a help.... I'd just contact organisations that are doing work that you are interested in yourself and ask to see if there is any work that you could help out with...
in the uk for now preferbly. anyting with animals, nature, inviroment. any links would be greatley aprechiated thank you
