Hey friends, I've been feelin' pretty yucky the past few days. My cough is so terrible that my abs hurt like I've done 3,000 crunches! Not to mention when I speak I sound like a 60 year old smoker. :-(

What are your best methods for relief?
I'm not a huge fan of drinking tea, but if that's what will help I'll give it a try.

    Thanks in advance!

I resort to the basics. Sucrets and other cough drops and tons of cloriseptic spray as needed. Yogi has a de-tox tea which does not contain echinachea or goldenseal that I like to think flushes out my illness when I'm sick. Even if it doesn't, it tastes pretty good (you probably wont think so) and your body needs to stay hydrated. Try to minimize unnecessary talking, it seems silly but when every word feels like it's tearing my throat I will start writing my own sign language.

Loquat Honey, it's a Chinese herbal honey (health food store) or Hylands Homeopathic honey cough syrup (also the health food store) these really do suppress the cough! I went through it while hugely pregnant, I even ripped my a abdominal muscle w/ the coughing, so I would definitely recommend those products.

Horehound syrup /cough drops, the echinachea & golden seal are good to help stimulate the immune system in shortening the illness, but if you don't treat yourself w/the herbs (tincture) w/in the first 24 hrs (prodromal period) youre not going to actually knock it out. Just shorten the duration.

Warm water w/lemon, keeping the neck and chest protected from drafts and winds. And hydration!

sweetened whiskey is great for the throat - you can mix it up yourself or just get a bottle of Southern Comfort :)

some old recipes suggest sweetened with honey, some say rock candy - i'll say it's never failed me after all these years ;)
