haha good deal. can't wait to see 'em a few months down the line. btw your eyes are a very pretty color i'm jealous lol
I might brush out my 1 month 9 day old dreads today, being only 19 and a ever growing city it's kind of preventing me from getting a job. I have had 2 places tell me get a hair cut and I could have the job, and 1 restaurant tell me if I brush them out I can have a job. That being said I'm considering brushing them out and then just trying to go neglect again later down the road when it's more convenient. I'm not sure though.. I don't wanna brush them out and then regret it in a few days and lose the progress I've made thus far.. So do I keep them in and just keep looking for a job or whattt :banghead: :willy_nilly: Here they are now: View attachment 44781 View attachment 44782 What do you guys think??
Okay if your going to work in a restaurant and those are the types of jobs your going for now. Apply at Jimmy Johns they allow dreads, thats where I been working part time as a driver and I make awesome money. Also pizza hut, Domino's, adult book stores, doggie daycares, natural and organic grocery stores, bar tending. DO NOT BRUSH UNTIL YOU HAVE SEARCHED HIGH AND LOW MY FRIEND. I had my dreads, and got laid off and found a job right away when I needed to. I also have been even offered a couple jobs with my dreads at 7 months but I really like where I am because my hours are awesome and I make good money so I told them no it was to much to do two jobs and go to school. I am telling you, don't brush because one job told you too.
Thanks for the advice Unfortunately I can't afford to drive to drive really far for a job these days, and the only places hiring near me are retail stores, I'm looking into getting a job at a BJ's as a or a ticketer forklift driver, love the hours there 10:30pm-6:30am . Only problem is that they do a drug test before hiring and I can't wait 30 days to get cleaned out, for a job. Mostly because I'm a full time student and am hurting for the cash
I feel you man, I hope it all works out. I am working at a small job now till I finish school. Like I said though keep trying, our economy just started getting better here so thats why we have so many jobs now, I don't know how it is by you, but all those places I mentioned really do take dread heads, and you don't have to apply for a driver you can do in shop work.
Nice looking start. and about those ends, if you haven't figured out by now, they'll get messed up looking anyway... The tips on my neglect dreads do this weird thing where they zig-zag, which gradually tightens, until the tip is blunted looking and a bit flat. I think what your beauty school friend was saying was out of some fear of congoing, sounds like she heard someone talking at beauty school about ripping or conditioning roots to prevent congos, and congoed the two concepts. But either way, it's an awful idea. Oh, and if you think having pretty tidy looking backcombed dreads keeps you from getting a job now, you have NOOO idea what neglect looks like, or what you will be seen as. Just find a sane employer, and if needbe, argue your case politely, and explain why there's nothing wrong with dreads. If you get rid of the dreads, you enforce the idea that they where right about dreads, and even the dreaded kid accepted it. If you're anything like me, you won't be able to stand working around people like that, in that sort of environment, with the sort of customers they are trying to attract. Those kinds of people make me feel claustrophobic.
Noted. , unfortunately the only 1 of those places that are around me really would be pizza hut, guess I know were I'm going That's what I was thinking
i don't believe that dreads on their own will prevent you from finding employment. they might prevent you from getting specific jobs, but if you're willing to make some sacrifices about the kind of job you want then i think you should be fine. how long have you been looking? on the other hand, it's only been a month.
Exactly, they prevent certain jobs, which happen to be the positions people are looking for (on the floor at a retail store etc). I don't really care where I work as long as the hours are reasonable. I've been looking for a few months now, but all these places just recently started hiring.
Why do you have dreads? Is it purely aesthetic? If so then I guess it's not a big deal to cut/ brush. If there's something more to it, then when employers bring it up, discuss it a little with them. You're clearly considering getting rid of them, so tell employers that you would prefer not to, but are willing to discuss the possibility. How do you wear your hair when you go for interviews? Is there any way to make them look neater? I've known plenty of people with dreads work in retail and hospitality, but it certainly depends on a lot of other things too. How qualified are you? How good are you at interviewing? Where do you live? How big is the city, how progressive is it? What level of retail are you looking at? Department stores, high end specialty stores?
If they're long enough for a ponytail, this seems to make a lot of people think you don't have dreads at all for some reason, even though they're clearly visible. It just doesn't register the same way. And if they're not long enough, you can tuck the front ones under the back ones to hold them down. On the downside, if you have them tied up alllll the time, I expect it will slow dreading activity down to a crawl.
