Are there good cops? Of course... there are some great ones, and then there are the assholes who outnumber them. A couple of years back, a bunch of kids were swimming in the public outdoor pool late at night. They had to climb the fence to do it. Something that has been done in that town by damn near every person who grew up there. Swimming in the pool at night was almost like a summer ritual for teens. The cops are driving by and happen to notice them, so they go over to the fence and tell them to climb back over, and they are all going to be arrested. Once back on the outside of the fence the cops line them up against the fence to search them. One of the kids (14) was being mouthy (as teenagers will be) and the one cop SHATTERED his wrist with his night stick. That translates to life ling problems with his wrist. It will never be the same. Now, you could put this down to just a bad cop... Except that the department just transfered him out of town the next day and kept him on active duty elsewhere without even a reprimand. The system itself is fucked... And you know what... the actual good honest cops who are there to do their job properly, will be the first ones to tell you this.
I have a real problem with the fact that when cops, for whatever reason violate someones basic human rights like for instance, taseing someone to death or beating someone into a retarded state, and then recieved suspended with pay during investigation. Then the offending cops get shuffled around into different precincts till there lost in paper work and free to damage someone else.
We (citizens) accidentally kill someone, we get manslaughter charges at the VERY least. They kill someone through direct action (ie Tazers), or even worse, shoot someone, and get fuck all for it... I could never figure that one out. Never will I suppose...
They tase you for doing almost nothing now like not putting your hands behind your back wtf is that? I thought tasing was to prevent harm to the officer if you have a guy on the ground and he wont put his hands behind his back you tase him? I say grow a pair and use your muscles not tase the person that isnt posing a threat to you on the ground damn.
Perhaps they tried that before and it didn't work so it pissed them off... If its good enough of an excuse for your weed story why not here too?
One day i was just sitting in my car, in my apartment complex parking space, listening to the radio. Something good was on, and i wanted to finish listening to it before i went inside. A cop rolls up real slow towards me, and then blocks my car in with his cruiser. He gets out and walks up to my door so i roll down my window. He said: "What's going on?" I told him that i was listening to the radio. He starts eyeballing the inside of my car and asks: "Do you live at these apartments?" I said yeah, for like five years! Then he said: "Why are you backed in?" I said -Why? Am i not supposed to be? He said: "It looks suspicious you just sitting there backed in." "Is your plate expired maybe?" "Mind if i take a look back there?" I'm starting to boil as he walked to the back of my car. I got out and said, do you want me to open the trunk for you while you're back there?! I opened the back door and said, you're welcome to search my whole damn car if you want to!! He told me to calm down. I said, calm down?! I'm on private property, in my car, and you're harassing me for no reason! He walked back to his car saying: "There's been drug activity reported around here, i'm just looking for anything that doesn't look right, that's all." I kept on running my mouth as he got in his car and drove off. I wanted to punch him soo bad, and i think he could tell. I guess i'm lucky he didn't arrest me for assaulting him with my attitude. I'm surprised he didn't ask to see my license and proof of ins.
They like to use excuses like that to stick their noses into places where they aren't supposed to be. Another buddy of mine came home one day (in the middle of the bush), to find a cop just walking out his front door. He asked her what the fuck she thought she was doing and her excuse was she was driving by and saw the front door open and wanted to make sure everything was okay... Those are the worst, "I violated your rights on your behalf"....
I try not to judge all cops like this, but it is hars for me to do. My close friend tiffany, who is disabled, was pulled over by a cop for driving suspicious, mind you she drives well . And he asks her to get on the ground, and she refuses, trying to explain that bc her knee is not working well, he doesnt let herexplain throws her down on the ground. and she was charged for resisting arrest. He also damaged her already fucked up knees, by throwing her on the ground. And I also had an bad experience with a cop, and it threw out any idea at the time that I had that cops were good.
in my experience, there's great cops, good cops, bad cops, asshole cops. In the end they're there simply to enforce the law and protect you. I've encountered asshole cops that make me furious for the way they treat people, but then there's some great ones out there who just want to help and would lay their life down for you in a second.
took advantage of that? The police have no right to take anyone weed. FUCK THEM. Weed should be legal. I hate the police, I know they are necessary, but I do everything I can to avoid them. I even read a book about protecting yourself against the police. The first step- avoidance: if they can't see you, they can't arrest you.
Well the thought that... If they can't see you, they can't arrest you....well of course. Kind of like if you don't commit a crime, you won't get arrested. Alot of people on here are upset with police and that's fine, but I hope it's not based on one incident or off of a friends story. If your mad about a ticket and you think someone should eat shit and die for giving you one. Well go to court and present your case otherwise stfu. Obviously there are plenty of mean spirited and even criminal minded police...there are hundreds of thousands of officers. When there are that many people involved there will most deffinately be bad representations. You look at any large scale employments; teachers, firemen, politicians, etc...there will be some level of corruption. I agree there are some serious pieces of shit out there that have no business wearing a badge and I know there are people who have truely been victims of police brutality, harrassment, etc. Police are human brings also...they have lifes difficulties, family's, medical problems, drama, other jobs even.. More to think about are the long strange hours most police work, supervisors they have to answer to, and their own safety. If you think a cop hasn't been killed or almost killed on routine traffic stop, your naive. Most cops are abrupt, stand offish, humorless because it's necessary for their safety...no snub at the person. I also think cops really only deal with 5% of the population throughout most of their careers short of traffic violators. Therefore most of the time they are dealing with true and blue pieces of shit...sex offenders, wife/husband beaters, thieves, violent criminals, con artists...etc. When you are around negative people all the time, it very well could be easy to become jaded and cynical. As for weed...I'm from California and from I've been told/experienced...cops don't care about weed. Around here you crush it up in the dirt and take the loss. What I have noticed is cops can be petty, understandably so when I see how petty some of you are, so the best idea is yes sir, no sir. Respect goes along way in all of lifes aspects. It's a respect, I believe, MOST officers deserve. They clean up the messes we don't want to deal with; broken homes, physical and sexual abuse of children, rape, murder, theft. Where I live, about one police officer a year dies, sometimes more. It's not because they fall off a boat or an oilrig falls on them...it's because they deal with dangerous people and are constantly behind the wheel of a vehicle, which in the USA is a scary place to be with some of our drivers...hence ticket hostility? I really don't want to be placed in a bandwagon or anything, but I read most of the responces and really felt the need to say something. No one else will. There are rights and wrongs on both sides and it sucks watching the news and seeing corruption taking place, but I also enjoy watching the news and seeing a violent felon or sex offender get convicted and removed from society. You don't gotta like'm, but try and understand you know?
cops just generate money--hassel the poor--poverty is considered a crime--can i hate cops? i do fuck em
@Romesfalling, I'm not speaking of 'one' incident myself. I posted a story here, and another one in Stoners lounge. I have had MANY bad experiences with them! Two weeks ago, i was leaning out of my arcadia door smoking a sigarette. I'm on the second floor with a large balcony. It was late at night and it was cold, so i didn't go outside to smoke like i usualy do. I guess it's because i wasn't wearing a shirt, i got fingered. Two cops, one male and one female were walking down the sidewalk. Because it was dark, i didn't know what they were. I got a high powered flashlight shined in my face, so i backed away. Then i leaned out again and got blinded once more with the flashlight. I yelled -WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR PROBLEM!? The female cop said -"Your ATTITUDE is my problem NOW!!" As they marched up my stairs, i swung my door open and stepped out. That's when i saw the police uniforms they were wearing. I said why are you flashing me with your damned flashlight!? The female stayed by the stairs, probably unsnapping a weapon, and the male approached me saying -"We got a report of a nude man outside with kids playing in the area." I was drunk, but i was even madder now! I said -What kids, do i look naked to you!? Was i even outside? Who called you anyway? Cop -"It was an anonymous call sir, we can't give you any information other than there has been a complaint." "May i see your ID?" So i went and got my ID. But i asked why they needed it anyway. He said -"We have to make a report and give a copy to your apt. manager." After i got rid of them, i called the police dept. They said that a call was made to my apt. complex on a nude man, with kids in the area. I asked what apt. number was given, and they said that there was no apt. specified, it was just in my apt. complex was all the information they had. So i requested their names, and badge numbers so i could file a complaint. They gave me the info, and a number to call. But i waited until the apt manager was open before going ahead with it. Two days later, and after being worried about getting evicted the whole time, i got ahold of the manager. She said -"Don't worry about it, they must have made a mistake because you were the first person they ran across -lol." That's not funny, and it's just another 'guilty until proven innocent' scenario! How manny innocent people get arrested because of this crap!? I have MORE nice experiences to share, if you are interested.. Edit: And even worse, if there was actualy somebody doing that, they may have got away with it because i was targeted instead.
justin, oh for sure i feel you man on shitty situations with police. i was just trying to show a different angle. without a doubt that sounds like a shitty situation...but kinda seems like it may just be a misunderstanding. its not out of the ordinary for police to get dispatched to unknown circ, calls where the reporter does not want to give a name...then seeing you half naked near a balcony...sounds like a lot of confusion. i do, however, feel your anger on appt. managers getting notified over something that was obviously not involving you. buuuuuutttt cops are stubborn and being drunk and assertive prolly put them on defense
