I am 17 and when i think of communes i think of A plot of land somewhere with 20 or so people living together away from the world. They use some electricity such as running water and stoves. And they listen to old records of the 60's like Janis Joplin or The Grateful Dead. On the land the commune grows vegetables and fruit and whatever they need. They have one big cabin type house that they all live in and they all live together in real peace and harmony away from the fake world around them. They all believe in free love and experiment with psycadellics and smoke marijuana like in the book Drop City.

Is there a commune like that? One that doesnt advertise and one that is a true "Hippy Haven"

im 16 and i dig where your coming from. i have had many 'fantasys' of a hippie haven and it just boggles my mind how peacefully amazing it would be to live in one exactly how you described it. finally a place where peace and love will reighn and music, psycadelics, and mellowing out will become prime. one day my brother a place will form, even if we have to do it as the young generation :) high hopes!

They exist... you won't ever have one respond online to a question like that though, or if they do, don't go there, because the cops will be right behind you...

Yeah man i know! There has to be a place like that somewhere!
Or evan if there was something evan for a week or so where it was just a huge get together of music and peace (like woodstock but smaller) like van stock off that 70's show but bigger.
I personally find this site way to confusing. I have been trying to oranize a type of "Van stock" thing in summer of 2010 where a bunch of old hippies from the 60's and hippies young and old drive their car bus whatever to a certain spot (hoping for ideas from others haha). And we all meet at one place and everyone can message eachother asking if they have some spare roomin their car. I personally would not mind picking up a few cats along the way to a great place like that. Where we bring tents and share and live in peace and harmony with eachother evan just for a week. Where old hippies can tell stories about their generation, everyone can sing dance etc without a care in the world. Everyone sharing and living in peace and harmony.

I dont know man, we cant recreate the 60's but we can create this, it's absolutely worthwhile. Shit if this ever happens i will evan stay behind and clean up :)

Well, you find the communities that will suit you by going and working at them... There are lots listed on these boards, and through IC.org...

Email them and feel them out... if any are truly against drugs, they will say so at the first chance...

If something seems like it has even the slightest possibility of what you are looking for, GO there and stay for a while... most will let you stay as long as you want IF you are working along side the others that are there.

If you find the first one you go to, isn't what you are looking for, thank them for their hospitality, and ask them if they know of something that would be more suited for you.

You may find the perfect place the first shot, or you may have to go through dozens... but as long as you do your share, and don't act like an ass, each one will only give you a better basis for the next, AND a reputation that you aren't just another leech looking for a host...

well, most gatherings of these type don't ask for ID when you show up... sorta goes against the whole escaping babylon idea...

As for what is publicly said... much like the issue of drugs, if some place is welcoming to what the law considers minors and advertise that, you are best to stay away...

No clue on that... best ask people who have been there, but ask in private, not in a public forum.

It's hard to fence in the entire desert.

If and when you are ID'd simply be prepared in advance. Pack some clothing you can really hike in and have plenty of water and ...

hike your way AROUND and IN. Likely a brutal quest in the heat of the desert, all the better to plan for a night quest.

There is too much space for burning man to be a secure venue.

Though when people who have been to burning man come and mock this idea I'd listen to them, cause I've never been yet ;)

burning man has a program where you can sign up and start working there a few weeks before and/or after. If you do that you get a free ticket. There is border security, as you would expect lots of hippies are poor and burning man is cool. also they dont have time to id 60,000 people so id is irrelevant.

As for your 'ideal' community, go and find it. There are a good number of places that exist. Most require you to be '18' so be 18. ic.org was already said. If you sit around dreaming about making a community you will end up dreaming forever. quit dreaming and do.

Rainbow gatherings are your van paradise. Someone is doing everything you have thought of. So go meet up with them.

well, my experience is that 'real peace and harmony' is a pretty brief thing, and in fact I've seen more intimacy come out of arguments and disagreements than anything else.

As far as I know most 60s communes only lasted a couple of years - if that. Drop City started in 65 and was having real problems by '68 and was gone by 1970. There are maybe 10 (?) of the 60's communes that are still around - The Farm, Twin Oaks, Lafayette Morehouse are the ones I know of off the top of my head, and of those 10 (?) only a couple that are the same group of people that started them, some of the older groups are the same real estate with a brand new cast.

    Spain. Greece. Italy. Sardinia.

Although it is not about listening to 60's records and smoking mari. Not about that at all. Living in such places takes responsibility also, don't forget that.
