Although homesteading is my ultimate goal, I have always believed that communal living would be a great experience for me. I could make contacts, and learn the skills I would need to be a homesteader. If I do not find a place to call home, with likeminded people, long term communal living would be a great alternative.

I do have pets though, two dogs (one an elderly chow who sleeps a lot) and a younger, but insanely sweet and funny pit bull. I also have a cat, but if my boyfriend and I split up, he would go with him.

Are there pet friendlly communes? I'm afraid of the voting process for pets, I understand it, but so many people "fear" pit bulls that I'm afraid communes would not vote him in. Even though he's really a sweet heart and as harmless as any dog could be (no dog is harmless, but you know, he is not going to snap and kill someone). I would trust him around babies, small animals, etc.

I guess I'm seeking advice, before I start contacting communes. Thanks.

hey, im trying to start a commune. its tough work, but if i can pull it off with my friends, youre more than welcome to come and bring the dogs to. i no a pit-bull, her name is skittles and she is soooo hyper but happy and fun. people should learn more before they judge.

Well ...I see this thread hasn't had a lot action on it ....lol. I really like the idea of critter-friendly communes ...and I don't mean the kind where peeps let their furry companeros run all over everybody else's space and end up lost or getting run over either.

I have eight ...all rescues and would like to find a peacable natural place where the critters are safe and cared for and the peeps don't think they are superior to them.

Any hippie-run animal rescue sanctuaries out there that need another critter lover and more beasties to make their scene complete?

I would love to find one or co-create one with like-minded and like-hearted peeps for sure.

We are urban and pretty pet friendly, and our 'big sister' group out in the country is very pet friendly, I'm sure there are lots of pet friendly groups out there.

Hi George. I was interested in finding out if your big sister group in the country is still pet friendly? And if so how do I get in contact with them to find more information. I really appreciate your help. I am having trouble at this point finding a commune that allows pets.
