doc ellis was a pittsburgh pirate baseball player.. This is a true story.. About the only thing I ever liked from the pirates..
but when they stopped taking acid they've been losers ever since..

Doc was a character for more than just his acid game, wearing curlers in his hair and being very outspoken with the media! He was always a fave of mine, from when ballplayers were just guys doing a job and not superhero millionaire crybabies.

I think about doc every February and every time I'm forced to watch baseball. great story.

 

Funny i see this . i was watching "east bound and down" HBO show about baseball player gone bad. will farrel produces. funny show. anyway I was telling someone about doc Ellises lsd no hitter. Wiki it. 1971 and he hit reggie jackson on head in that game to retaliate something he had done. And don't forget the "spaceman" Bill Lee. not sure if he tripped. but big stoner. I bet doc Ellis was really into the game. hahaha

Spaceman Lee drove his managers up the wall, he once said that pot helped the major leagues because now everyone wasn't alcoholic...

Bill used to sprinkle pot on his cereal in the mornings on days he wasnt pitching. He was one of the first advocates for reefer in sports!

 

This is a perfect time to ask this..

I have always wondered... do they prohibit marijuana use in professional athletics with drug tests?

Also I love the story of Doc Ellis. So many acid heads had no idea about this and I'm always grateful to fill them in. I was excited when Robin Williams mentioned the whole story in his latest HBO stand up. "Doc Ellis deserves his own black light room at the hall of fame."
