What are your thoughts on George W. Bush's intelligence level?

My belief is that he is not nearly as dumb as he portrays himself to be. I truly believe it is mostly an act. Much like his "cowboy" image, which is a total joke. But it is meant to appeal to the public, and it does. His "dimwit' image is also manufactured in order to "distract", I think. While people are busy Photoshopping images of him compared to monkeys, looking dumb, writing Bushisms etc...they are stealing our liberty. Although these efforts are funny, I think many people let their guard down. So much energy is spent on making jokes about him in the context of him being an idiot, that I think it distracts us from the very serious dangers ahead. Listen to him speak back when he was a governor, there is a marked difference.

People feel more trusting of a "dummy" for president. If you think Bush is truly stupid, then it is hard to find him evil, a criminal. I think that is really scary. We need to see these people as they are, cold-blooded criminals.

Hmm, that is an interesting perspective. I wonder if he is playing "dumb Nascar watching, cow riding, idiot" to appeal to the huge number of Americans who are similar.

Whether he is stupid or not (and I do feel he is not too bright) his advisors, who are not elected, are pretty sharp, and they do damage. He's intelligent enough to put them in positions where they can do, basically, what they want.

I doubt its an act. I think he's above average intelligence. I dont think he's clinton or JFK though.

I think regardless of whether his IQ is high or not, the life he has led, and his royal birth have allowed him to access information that you or I never could. I'm sure he knows more about the way the world really is than 99.9999% of the rest of the worlds population.

And yes, I think he does put on a act to attract a certain demographic...although it seems clear he's not a great communicator.

Let's see...a drunk until 40, coke habit....those things tend to wear away at your brain. I don't know any 20 year drunks that are that smart anymore regardless of how smart they were when theywere younger. Alcohol does major damage to the brain. And he already kinda sounds like Ozzy when he talks.

What, brain damaged like Nietche, VanGogh, Hemingway, Churchill, Poe, Yeats? No. It's not the booze, no idiot could ever win a second term in the White House regardless of who they hung around with. It isn't stupidity we are dealing with here, it's good old fasioned pig-headedness, stubborness, faith, self-grandoisement, and a complete willingness to condescend without fear of being caught. He talks down to us because he thinks we are stupid gullible sheep. And by-gods, if we reelected the bastard then maybe we are!

No, I believe Bush is truly "not very bright." I will stop short of calling him dumb, however. At very best, I would say he's of average intelligence. But I think he's far below the average intelligence of the other US presidents that have come before him.

What people don't realize is that Bush is really just a puppet -- a figurehead. Based on the enormous amounts of reading and research I have done, I am certain that Bush is not really the one running things -- rather Dick Cheney and the other neocons in the Bush cabinet are.

Bush was put into office thanks to his father and his cronies, because they knew that George would play ball and work to their agenda, finishing the job that daddy never did.

George Bush was essentially rallied into office by the neocons. He's their golden boy.

Let's keep in mind that the war in Iraq was planned YEARS before Bush even entered office. He also was not at the meetings in which the war was planned, prior to the invasion.

Again, Bush is just a puppet. He is nothing more than the man who is put on display. Bush is not the one pulling the strings. He is not the one making the hard decisions, though he is profiting just the same as the rest of 'em. I am confident that Bush is fully aware of what's going on, but has little say in what actually does go on.

The true intention of having George Bush as president is to provide the illusion that there is really one man who represents the American people, when there is no such person at all. The George Bush presidency is nothing more than a smoke screen for the vast network of corrupt, power-hungry individuals out for their own cause, and only their cause.

    It could be, PR.

But whether his apparent stupidity is his Idea or someone else's, I think it's pretty clear that it won him an election or two.

Think of it like a student council election in high school. Are the students going to vote for Mr Smartypants, who sits in his corner doing math homework every day, makes straight As and who's idea of a fun saturday night is a chess club meeting? Or are they going to elect Mr Cool, who doesn't make very good grades, but he talks to people in the hall all the time, is always having fun, and is much easier for the average student to relate to than Mr Smartypants?

Dubbya presents an image of a simple country fella who works nine to five, never misses monday night football and goes to church every sunday. He presented that image, which to any close observer is completely false, and the American people lapped it up like antifreeze on the garage floor.

Well, why do you think they made Bush the chosen one? For this very reason!

To many people, Bush comes off as being a very likable, down-to-earth kind of guy, and his stupidity only adds to it. Americans think, "Oh, he's just another one of us. I reckon I'd like to sit down and eat a bowl of grits with that man."

This is why Bush is president and not Cheney.

I don't think he's "dumb", but I don't find him to be too "intellectual" either. He's an average american. I really think he's just a very well connected man who is smart enough to surround himself with with smart, decisive people......who agree with him.

Like Matt said. Bush's intelligence is irrelevant, he is not the one who is actually "running the show".

Well, I didn't say he was the mastermind behind all the events since his election, but to focus on how moronic he appears to be is missing the point, and the real dangers.

    LMAO

I think Bush is just as dumb as he seems. Which, is pretty much on par with most of mid-America. No insult intended, becasue I grew up in mid Missouri and I wouldn't want my neighbors running anything, much less the most advanced military in history. He only seems dumber than this becasue he is always trying to use words he can't pronounce - much less define.

Here's a wonderful game for you... some great Bush Quotables...

How eerily true that is. I was in govt class where these guys were talking about how cool it would be to go fishin' with Bush. They'd be pals man. Just the guys, a cooler full o' Lone Star beer, and nothin' to do.

The whole image serves to take away from his culpability. You can't be a criminal if you're dumb. By gosh he's just doing the best with what he's got. To boot, every time somebody makes fun of him, the idiot masses take it personally.

George W. Bush won the governorship of Texas twice; he won the presidency, twice. Yep. Real dumb.

I think that he's a very intelligent man who understands his demographic and what it wants to hear. He went to Yale and Harvard and is the first president with an MBA. He's not dumb by any means- just wildly deceptive and money-hungry.

He's also the first president since Hoover to not meet with the NAACP.
