I agree completly, and apparently we do have one. For those of us that use this site and feel wrong tagging ourselves as 'hippies' because we beleive that hippies were around in the 60's protesting the war in vietnam, driving around in volkswagon buses, and standing for equality and freedom, fear no more! Let's say you're for peace and love, and stand for basically the same things, you just weren't born at that time. Apparently you're reffered to as a 'neo-hippie'. "Like traditional hippies, neo-hippies are political and motivated, to some degree. Neo-Hippie could be difined as someone who meets the all, if not most, following standards: Liberal in political views, sports certain fashion attire distinct to the "hippie" family and plays hackie sack. Neo-hippies also may be vegetarian and have an avid, if not obsessive, desire to recycle." I thought this was cute, there ya go, you have your own tag without the guilt of slandering the old hippie generation you hippie at heart! Or neo-crunch! term for post-Garcia hippies promoting idealism for a new century.
Hey, I wanted to say that, but thought it was too forward and perhaps inappropriate coming from someone who could be her grandfather. But, as an old fart Hippie, guess I could just be honest and say this neo-hippie turns me on. And, hopefully she won't get bent outta shape.
Just remember that Hippy was once a derogatory term. Like this exchange from Steal This Movie. Cop: All I see in this shop are N@#$$%#% and Hippies. Abby Hoffman: That is really offensive we never use the word Hippie around here. Peace Out, Rev J
I take the word hippie as a type of person not the type of person in the counterculture of the 60's. No need for "neo". Leave Keanu Reeves out of it!!! I think there'll be a new thing to come but culture right now is generally lacking.
Wow! thanx for posting that vid AlvisDwinDuscha, it was quite educational. Filled in a few gaps for me, mainly the history of us free spirits. The beat gen was before my time. In fact when this was filmed I was just starting high school. We heard of the "Beatniks" and I think they were mostly in New York City at that time and the image we had was of avant garde poets, artists and musicians wearing berets with medium long hair. Apparently the Brits (as usual) were ahead of us by a decade or so with these "Beatniks" that looked and lived like Hippies. As late as 1970 when I dropped out in New Orleans there weren't too many ppl with hair as long as shown in this flick. Later that year when I hit San Francisco I noticed how many more guys had shoulder length hair. So, it was regional as to how common we were. Also, in a way it is nice to see that the Brits were as disgustingly discriminatory as we in the states (our black civil rights movement hadn't even started at this time). Seeing thes old establisment types with their blatant prejudice looked just like the pigs in our own culture here. except for the Brit accent instead of the southern drawl they are interchangeable.
"e-hippie" is that like High-tech Redneck? Granted I was hoping that e-harmony would be a music theory site. Peace Out, Rev J
