My birth-given name is rose, although I've been called Pepper most of my life. I would like to call myself rosepetal, to give my name a different spin...

My Old Hippie Friends: Stoner Buffy (way before) Weird Pee-Pee Head (no kidding) Hub Monkey Z-man Pig Eyes
Thyme. I'm a bit of an herbalist (and learning more every day), and I use thyme a lot. I make little bags of tea stuffed with thyme, sage, and lavender for all my loved ones. Not to mention my fascination with time. How do you define it? Where are we going into the future? Is the past really even the past? And why was I born in this time? I do tarot all the time, to see what the future will bring.
I never got a Hippie name. Musta been passed out when they were passing them out. It was always just Rob ("Rob from New Orleans" or "Rob with Jim") Others in my N.O. community had names like Hat, Snowflake, Ambo Legfish, Shepherd (an ostentatious misnomer) and even an overreaching Kumi Maytreya. But I was just Rob, like my really alternative lifestyle friends Sharon & Leon, who had a very extended family. Before dropping out I was called "Fuzzy" by my roommate's girlfriend, but that's because my roommate and I were both Rob. She gave me that name because I had a mustache and was a cop. "Shale" was my own invention from a story I wrote in 1984. I am proud to say I was called "Bookie" by my wife, as I'm sure millions of other black men are called. (Oh, I'm not black - forget sometimes)
I have been called Shaggy or Shag for years. I must of got the name sometime in school. I have always liked it simply because I love Scooby-Doo.
The only nickname I've ever had was ely, which I go by to my best friend only. As for a hippie name, I've always loved Indigo but I may have a hard time getting people to call me that, haha.
I knew a girl in high school named Rain, too. I also knew a girl whose last name is Rodas... so her parents named her Abbey. She didn't appreciate it nearly enough.
not sure if it is a hippy name or not but everyone calls me lucky. i used to date a girl named rainy. she was a cool girl very free spirit.
back in junior high school and high school, between 1970 to 1976 in conserative bible belt san antonio, texas, my hippie names where: 'goddamn hippie shit,' 'fucking hippie,' and so forth. when punk rock came along, they just dropped the word hippie in those "hippie names" and, just added the word punk to replace hippie in those those names. when i went to liberal free thinking austin, texas, my hippie names changed to: 'cool man,' 'far out' and, so forth. i love those austin hippie names with all my heart! :sifone: i hate those san antonio "hippie names" to the dephts of my bowels!
A few people know me as Rain, actually. It's something I respond too, and I didn't give myself the name, or think about it. I just loved the rain, and one of my friend called me that- and it caught on. We had a family friend, lovely guy, who always treated me like his kid. He used to call me Lucy, after Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. People here? Lilac. Lilac is a tribute to my 'sister'. She ..kinda showed me the hippie side of things. She's gone now. Don't know where.
I think there are two kinds of hippie names. There's the kind that the hippies themselves had, and then there's the kind that many of those hippies saddled their poor kids with: Moon Unit, Dweezil, and Diva Thin Muffin (Zappa); River and Leaf (Phoenix); God (Slick? - Grace Slick's kid); Pilot Inspektor (Lee), and so on. Life is hard enough without that kind of millstone around their necks... poor kids. The ones born of celebrity parents will probably do okay, though.
If I had to choose a hippie name, it'd be Apolla Reign. Apolla means sun, and Reign is just a really nice way to spell Rain.
