I smoked weed everyday multiple times a day for about 2 years straight. One night i was smoking with my friend, we smoked a normal session (some poppers) and all was going normal, till i got this pain in my chest, i freaked out and panicked and thought i was going to die or something. Once i sobered up and calmed down, the tension in my chest got better, and i was able to sleep. I just assumed i got a little to high, and possibly had a bad trip. Ever since this experience, i cant get high and enjoy it, i get the same uncomfortable feeling in my chest, and even sometimes when I'm sober i get the feeling, but just not as intense. I've been to a doctor to check for physical symptoms, and everything is good, so i assumed it must be anxiety. I've cut back huge on smoking, probably only about 2 times this month, i just broke a 2 and a half week break, and had the feelings again. I no the solution is to probably stop smoking, but is there any other way of helping, or is this even making sense? Could marijuana be a cause for my anxiety? Some thoughts please.

is it possible your lungs are not happy with you? You said you went to a doctor so I don't know. But sounds to me like maybe you should try a vaporizer for bud. Might help that chest pain.

When I was about your age, and had just started smoking weed, I had a bad anxiety experience. I'd packed a full bowl, and smoked the lot as I was feeling depressed at the time. At first, I felt fine; but then I started to panic and my heart was racing and I was worried I would overdose (didn't know a thing back then about weed really). I was living with a house mate, and woke her up to try to get calmed down.

This wasn't the first time I'd had an anxiety attack, previous ones were without any substance involved. It was however the first really bad one, and because of lack of knowledge about the substance I was dealing with at the time, it freaked me out more.

It's been over 12 years now since that experience. I smoke more now than I did then. However, I have always been very careful to know my limits. If you are experiencing anxiety like that, every time you smoke, then I'd say you should probably cut back. Or when you do smoke, take it easy and not smoke so much. If you are taking poppers as well (unless you are using this as slang for something else), I'd advise cutting those out all together. I'd even suggest that those could be more attributing to anxiety attacks (as they get the heart rate up, etc) than a bit of weed would be.

There also is the chance, that because now you know that smoking weed = anxiety attack, that you are putting yourself in the mindset to have an attack again, because you are assuming that when you smoke, it might happen.

If you do experience anxiety attacks when not smoking, I'd suggest talking to your doctor about that. As you can be referred to CBT therapy to try to learn to think around the anxiety instead of it being something that feels really disconcerting.

Take care of yourself, and be safe.

definatly agree with you there dude! When your to busy worring about what you THINK might happen, you'll just end up thinking it into existence.

Just relax. Practice meditation if you don't already do so. its a great way to relieve stress on a day to day basis.

I have recently starting meditating, and reading alot more. I guess i do assume i will have anxiety attacks everytime i smoke, but how do i overcome this? and ive never thought about lowering the dose... i guess that could play a role to.

stop saying to yourself what MIGHT happen. like, "oh man, i really hope i don't freak out again when i smoke". correct yourself everytime you think something like this. instead of "oh man, what if" say "this bowl is going to make me feel so chill"

All I know is, I suffer from anxiety.
    Have my whole life.
And I can't smoke weed with people or I get really anxious.

I feel like I'm gunna throw up, my chest hurts and yada yada.

I suggest you take a break and learn how to deal with your anxiety before you get back to smoking.
If you don't take care of it, it can create worse problems for you.
(trust me, I've been through it)

We can't control our anxiety sometimes. It mostly just in your head. But some people truly have a chemical in balance that they can't fix. But just have to live with.
