i havent found any information on how lsd is metabolized through the body, hmm. any ideas? like what causes the "trip" to happen?

most of the LSD is metabolized before the peak of the experience, suggesting it sets into motion some chain of events in the brain. it is a catalyst for something perhaps. all we know is the receptors it interacts with.

Yeah I remember I saw on "inside lsd" I think it was that the LSD molecule is actually identical to the seretonin molecule, so it fits in your brain like a puzzle peice and makes you feel amazing.

the filters are gone for the most part, and you just experience everything in a blended manner.

hmm so if lsd structurly resembles serotonin in the brain, wouldn't people with a higher serotonin level naturally trip good as apposed to people who have lower levels of serotonin who would be more likely to trip badly?

edit: thanks for the link, that was pretty cool

Chemical reactions firing off in your brainie. Every time I tell somebody they are on a psychedelic drug that alters their perception of thought they never seem to stop freaking out

well as far as i know LSD has ALMOST Identical chemical molecules to Serotonin in our central nervous system like few other psychedelic drugs DMT, mescaline they to have the same chemical molecules as Serotonin just a little more complex once you take lsd it gets to your brain its starts burning out the Serotonin in there and prevents your brain from producing it which can last anywhere from 1 or 2 hours once that is done your brain starts producing so much of Serotonin where it gets to the points of overproduction and when that happens you start opening the channels in your brain that you have never used before from what i understand :p

this is actually a great question that baffles me. Because serotonin is a neurotransmitter mainly responsible for mood and alertness. It makes way more sense to me that MDMA effects serotonin.

The occipital lobe is in the very back of your head and is the lobe responsible for vision. So I imagine LSD (which your brain is recognizing as serotonin) is getting crossed up in that path where it takes your occipital lobe to process the light that is infiltrating your eyeballs at the optic nerve and being relayed back. that's my amateur hypothesis. I dont think your brain stops producing serotonin though like someone said, otherwise you would probably not have much emotion on lsd. It may cause reuptake to get inhibited which means it would pile up at receptor sites and stop the normal "flow." Simply saying it's due to serotonin means nothing to me though , because serotonin's main effect is on mood and that says nothing about the illusions of sight.

Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) is a neurotransmitter in the brain that has an enormous influence over many brain functions. It is synthesized, from the amino acid L-tryptophan, in brain neurons and stored in vesicles. Serotonin is found in three main areas of the body: the intestinal wall; large constricted blood vessels; and the central nervous system. The most widely studied effects have been those on the central nervous system. The functions of serotonin are numerous and appear to involve control of appetite, sleep, memory and learning, temperature regulation, mood, behavior (including sexual and hallucinogenic behavior), cardiovascular function, muscle contraction, endocrine regulation, and depression

That's all well and good that you posted that so we can see serotonin's complete function, its still doesn't answer how LSD causes illusions. You are constantly producing serotonin, why aren't you constantly hallucinating then?

Constantly Tripping... so you never heard of this theory? is life but just a dream? Your brain is constantly receiving messages from the outside world through nuerotransmitters. all 5 senses or maybea even 6, are stimulated through nuerotransmitters in which lsd is a seratonin agonist in the brain changing the flow of these nuerotransmitters. with certain filters in your brain down the hypothalmus is overstimulated meaning information rushes your brain. but scientist still do not fully understand how LSD has certain "other" effects.

To put it extremely simply, LSD changes the way the receptors in your brain receive information, making all kinds of weird shit happen.
