When I can afford therapy I'd love to go, but I'm more or less expressing my frustration in finding a therapist who won't think of my general affinity for counterculture and alternative lifestyles as part of my disordered behavior. The ones in my area who would be tolerant of my counterculture ways also seem to subscribe to a lot of new-age beliefs and seem to want to incorporate spiritualism into the therapy, which may work fine for some but not for me. I want someone who can help me understand my problems and my brain without telling me to find my spirit, and without judging me harshly because I'm a polyamorous and sex-positive atheist hippie who reads about quantum physics, fractal geometry, and cosmology for fun. There seems to be no one in my area who is really 100% on board...heh. What did I expect? Either way, at this point I can't really afford a therapist so I'm going to try to research my issues to the best of my ability and find practical coping solutions, but at some point I'd love to delve into deeper aspects of it with a professional in real time...hmmm.
I would think the most helpful to you would be persons who have lived via your perspectives and faced yet overcome the same difficulties you face. Professionals always display some measure of conflicted interest. If we are not looking for a pharmacological solution, then a good friend should prove a superior prescription.
Hi! I registered to hip forums just so that I could reply to this thread. What the OP might be looking for are therapists who are into carl jung. Check out wikipedia for carl jung. there is a wealth of information about him and his "school" of psychology. good luck!
