Why don't animals have to brush their teeth? I know their is stuff out there for animals teeth, but I never used it on my dog, and he didn't get cavities. Even animals in the wild don't get teeth problems. I know there is probably a few cases out there, but for the majority of animals they don't have dental problems. Why are animals teeth so much better than human's teeth?

    Hmmm good point.

We have rabbits, and they can sometimes get dental problems (mainly their teeth getting too long) but ours have been fine. Branwen grinds her teeth, which seems very effective.

Maybe they know something we don't, and are just more intuned with keeping themselves in good shape.

Well, I would think that since their food doesnt have all the sugar ours can have...that would be one reason. Plus, any vet would advise you to brush your dog's teeth on a daily basis.....it's just that most people dont do it.

ok..this is my department ..being as teeth is how i make my living..
animals do not eat things w/ all the shit in it that we do..
an animal also has different kinds of bacteria in there mouths...
so that is why they do not have cavites like us..
they don't drink pop or eat candy or bread...and there teeth r alot different than ours...

Rar1013 is on the right track- I'm actually a certified doggie dental technician (did ya know they had those- lol) and yes its primarily due to what they eat. I have seen many dogs that are fed mostly people food and trust me they have issues- it really is best to feed only dry dog food and crunchy dog treat and yes we tell pet owners to brush but we know its probably not going to happen. Also when dogs get tooth decay we usually just remove the tooth instead of doing filling and such- just FYI :)

Yup thats what happens- unfortunatly many people neglect their pets teeth and that can lead to other organ function problems. We see alot of it, tooth decay leading to kidney failure and the like. So if you want your pet to live a long and happy life get regular dental cleanings!!!! Anyway thats my little public service announcement- lol

OH! and BTW- dental month is coming up in February!!!

i imagine that animals also drink a lot more clean beverage (water) than we do which would help wash out food and keep their teeth clean.
