    Remember John Barrymore?

Its a rare generation that produces a performer that rises to the level of "Legend".
Mozart and Shakespeear were performers. But they are remembered as writers.

Who is writing the music that will be played in 50, 100, 200 years from now?
(Remember, at the time Johann Bach's sons were the well known ones.)

Well, I'd say Lennon & McCartny are possibilites. Perhaps Flatt & Scruggs. The writers of music that others like to play will be the legends of our time.

look at all the legends today!
jim morrison, bob marley, jimi hendrix, janis joplin, elvis presley, etc, etc.
all killed in climax, i guess, of their careers.
It's like neil young said, "it's better to burn out, than to fade away."
Look at Michael Jackson. Dead. Going to go down in history.
Any artists today, that die during their careers, will inevitably be icons.
    Thats just my prediction. xD

It's weird how michael jackson was the epitome of child molestation jokes and then when he dies everybody converts to fans as if they were never making fun of him...
    really,

    really, world?

Never can tell. James Dean made only 3 films, the third one released after his death. In the 54, almost 55, odd years since his death, his image has been on the Postage stamp and I'm sure his estate has earned more money than when he was alive.

Sometimes it seems its not the size of the body of work left behind, but the impression made after the person is gone.

Can't think of anyone today making such an impression.

The biggest problem with current celebrities is that we know too much about them. We see every flaw.

If you look at the most beautiful woman in the world under a microscope, her skin looks like the Grand Canyon.

The second big problem they have now is that it's so hard to be original. Everything has been done before.

^ I think the biggest problem with the celebrities these days is the lack of demand for quality.

In fact, we ignore all the best musicians, actors, etc. even when they do get 15 minutes of mainstream attention.
