Swim is Looking for any advice on how to handle getting caught downloading torrents. Internet was disable for a couple hours he said then got ahold of his internet company and got it turned back. They did tell him that his activites online are being monitored.

Anyone been in this situation before. I told him to reformat computers and have a friend hold onto his dvd's and harddrives with all his downloaded stuff.

So ya any help would be greatly appericated hes poping a bunch of his anti anxiety meds and smoking weed to help him calm down and hes still freaking out.

I did read once that a girl was arrested and ordered to pay back what she had downloaded. But that could have been a dream....

    i wouldnt sweat it..

its an ISP scare tactic, nothing more.

they are just sending the warning to cover their own ass..

yeah, i bet its definitely some outrageous fine..

but i bet if you could look at the number of people who get sent warnings, vs the number of people who are actually charged with something.. the numbers would definitely be in your favor.

''Swim'' always confuses the shit out of me, this is not Soviet Russia, you don't have to use it :D.. Basically if you get warned, i suggest changing companies or switching to buying media for a while. I read of very horrible fines, way over the amount of damage done just to set an example.

Hahah I got a notice from my old ISP that I was running illegal server activities and that they suspected I was using torrents before, nothing came of it though and I just lowered my upload speed from about 800kb/s up to 100kb/s . I wouldn't sweat it, I got a warning directly from HBO another time for downloading a season of the sopranos, I just deleted it, wtf can they do at that point lol as I no longer possess it :p and I can always claim a friend downloaded it while using my computer
