Following on from my previous post - http://http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=387820&f=40

I heard some really interesting opinions about Menstrual Cups from ladies within this forum, some good and some bad. It is clearly a matter of preference.

After several hours of further research, I ordered a Femmecup, which I began using last month, and I have to say - I absolutely love it!

Until now I had used tampons for over 15 years, now I am using this cup, I will never look back.

As a first time user, I would love to discuss the benefits with any one else considering switching to a cup. I know from experience that the experiences of a new user are good to know when considering making the switch.

    Have a good day all

    Pat : )

That's great news ladypat! I have been using my Mooncup for three cycles now and I absolutely love it. It's great to see more and more women switching to cups!!
The main thing with cups is that you must be comfortable with your body and flow, which I guess it's not a innate characteristic. I personally didn't have any kind of issue with this, so I didnt encounter much trouble getting used to my cup.

It'd be interesting to hear from other cup users!:D

I was thinking of getting a moon cup and have been reading some reviews. A lot of people have said that it is difficult to remove? That puts me off a little.

The insertion and removal of the cup was an issue I was concerned about too. I can't comment about Moon Cup as I have never used this brand but I don't have any trouble with my Femmecup.

Like anthing new, it took a while to adjust but now I have I don't have any problems.. It's all in the folding technique!

I have one, and I do try it from time to time, but it just pisses me off with leaking.

I have googled solutions, and troubleshooting with no success. It would be awesome, if it worked.

I've been contemplating getting one of these for awhile; but I'm also nervous about insertion and removal. (I've read some pretty interesting stories about having to have someone help get it out due to suction).
Also, I was told the stem of them tend to hurt and need to be cut down consderably in order to be comfortable.

Most of the reviews I've heard have been about the Mooncup however, I've not heard much about the Femmecup.

Wouldn't it be great if this was something we were just all taught when we first started our periods, like how to use pads and tampons?

Well, after starting my thread ages ago, I never got around to getting a cup. I am proud to say my aunt will be buying me one for my birthday, though (at my suggestion). :)

I'll probably be getting a Diva Cup and I'm really excited.
About the problem removing, I heard that if you're getting any kind of suction, you might be putting it too far in. I can't really say since I haven't used one yet, though.

I've been using a diva cup for about 2 years now, and I absolutely love it! changed my life.

It definitely takes some getting used to, like getting it to re-open after insertion....but I haven't had any issues with it at all. No leaking or problems getting it out...I highly recommend the investment!

I think it sounds so interesting! My time of the month has decided to take a break for several months (doc says because my body is stressed with all it's issues and me being so sickie - no big deal) so right now I really have no need for one.. but once I have to worry about this kinda stuff, I'll certainly be trying this out. Sounds like such a good alternative!

Hmm that's the first time I've heard of someone having that problem. I would imagine its just like a suction thing, right?

Yeah, that's my thinking too. And if it's in a public bathroom - I don't know if I could go empty it in front of others.

I think its actually supposed to be cleaner than tampons or pads, since the blood is all contained in the cup. And as far as emptying it, you just dump it in the toilet and wipe it out with paper.

Well, I don't have one yet. haha I'm just talking about what other people have said and what I think its supposed to actually do. According to the FAQ on the mooncup site, if its leaking, you probably don't have it sitting just right.

Theoretically, its supposed to be like a drip pan (as gross as that imagery is).

yes, I find that just letting a little air in (so the cup isn't just suctioned closed) before pushing it all the way in does the trick.

seriously, using a cup is so easy and painless! it's truly amazing compared to the more "conventional" methods. I can't even feel it once it's in, and my body knows when it's almost full! I don't have any leakage ever with mine. I never have to worry about lugging boxes of pads or tampons around with me traveling, or worrying about how to dispose of used pads or tampons camping.

ALSO, It's like 10 billion times less wasteful!! a one time cost and no running out in emergencies!!!! i totally wish ladies could just get these things for free!!! I feel it's essential!

The fact this it is SOOO much more eco-friendly is a major selling point for me, but I honestly think it would make my life so much easier because you don't have to constantly worry about it like you do tampons. And I have NEVER been able to wear pads. Too much like a diaper for me. Way too uncomfortable.

Well, just used my new Keeper Moon Cup for the first time. This is only my second day having it in. It was a little awkward and uncomfortable to insert the first time since I didn't really know what to expect, but I'm used to that now.

I'm still having a slight problem getting it adjusted correctly, so I've got a little leakage. Practice makes perfect, though. I can already tell that my cup is tens times more comfortable than a tampon. The cramps and back ache I usually have by now are significantly less, not to mention I haven't experienced the vaginal dryness I usually do with tampons.

For someone like me who just can't use pads (I hate them-they're gross and feel like diapers) this is a life saver! I don't even need to go into how much I love the economic and ecological value of it. :D

Because that's totally what this is.

I would just like to clarify that I only mentioned the brand because there is another Mooncup and that leaves an opening for comparison (not just for the other Mooncup-which is no longer available in the US) to other brands because they many not all be the same. Especially since the original Keeper Cup is not made of medical grade silicone like most, but instead made of gum rubber.
