I've been housebound for 3 years now. I have horrible panic attacks and I finally decided to go get treatment. However, over the last year I've been taking benzos everyday and I'm extremely chemically dependent on them. The only reason I'm going is to get a script so I don't have to worry about buying them from friends.

btw..don't tell me I need to stop taking them... I am fully aware of dangers of benzo addictions. I've made up my mind already that I would rather be addicted to them and have a somewhat normal life than be a complete shut-in.

So do you guys think I would get drug tested before being prescribed benzos? I'm going to tell them I don't take anything.

and.. What is some good advise for persuading my doctor to prescribe a benzo over an SSRI?

how do you get the pills from freind if you never leave the house? Do they visit you. do they know you dont go outside?
and no, the doctors are not going to drug test you..

lol ..well yeah..they're my friends... I grew up with them. I'm able to go out and do some things... but not very often. And when I do I gotta be heavily medicated. Can't get stoned anymore cause it gives me the worst panic attacks :(

thanks for some info on the drug test thing.. I was kinda sweatin' it. oh and btw.. your signature is hilarious with the squirrel .. HAHA

If you are going to get treatment though, I would tell the doctor whatever it is your taking. Doctor is to assist you not judge you.

Problem with that is.. they think you're just trying to feed an addiction.

    exactly.

And when I do stop taking benzos I'm going to need a doctor's help with tapering them... like switching from xanax to klonopin to valium then getting the really low dose (2mg) valiums that doctors don't prescribe unless its for detox. If you try and just straight up say... "hey I need to get off benzos, I have an addiction" ..they will not treat you. Its such a dangerous detox that you can't do it alone.

I guess thats why I want to get prescribed to them in the first place. So I can get help getting off (thats what she said!). If that makes any sense? I sure as hell can't do it by myself.

Speaking from a lot of experience....you need to be on an additional med(s) besides just the benzos. You're definitely making the best choice by seeing a doctor. I hope you're seeing a psychiatrist, not just a GP? You will not be drug tested, by the way.

I understand your trepidation. When you say they will not treat you, that is a very random sampling. There are doctors who would work with you towards your ultimate comfort.
