Charged with possession...whats gonna happen?

I was caught with less than a gram of pot a couple of days ago in NJ. The cop took me and 2 of my friends to the station(we were all 17), and he was explaining what gonna happen to us. I was stoned as hell and hardly remember what he said, but I do remember he said it wouldnt go on our records, and colleges wouldnt find out about it. Then he just called our parents to pick us up. Does anyone know if anything serious is gonna happen? Or is most likely just gonna be a fine? Cuz the NJ laws on norml.com seem more serious than what the cop told me...thanks for any input

 

by the sounds of it, he pretty much let you off with a warning/called your parents.

 

Thats what I was thinking, till he told me I had to go to court...sorry I forgot to mention that

 

you should just go to the courthouse and ask what the court date is for; they'll be able to help you. so what do your parents think?

 

My parents were cooler than I thought they would be, they gave me the whole "we're disappointed in you, we never expected this from you" deal. I think they were more pissed that I got arrested than that I was smoking pot.

 

Sounds like your gonna get ff with a simple fine, kinda like a parking ticket, If it were a felony , well then your financial aid for college would go bye bye.

 

In Wisconsin 17 is considered adult...I was caught with weed, I was 16 at the time, got off with just a fine which I made up for in community service...my friend, who was 17, got sent to jail for a week or so, but that doesn't sound like itll happen to you (he got arrested and taken away when we all got busted). From whats happened so far, I wouldnt expect anything more than what happened to me, except the fine will most likely be different, I'm guessing lower...wisconsin possession laws are fucking crazy.

 

its just a misedemenor (sp). Probably around a 150 dollar fine, thats what is in pennsylvania. No biggy

 

If you go to your public library, the laws for your community will be laid out there if your interested in the penalty range. Less than a gram, probably will only result in a misdemeanor and a small fine, similar to that of a speeding ticket. Any punishment beyond that is fairly unlikely if its your fisrt offense.

New jersey has HARSH laws, you are faccing up to a 1000 dollar fine. Since youre under 18 though im doubting you are going to get any possible jail time and the fine will probably be a lot smaller. Im guessing the possible 1000 dollar fine is just to scare people.

 

$1000 for a gram...fucking greedy goddam police state.
