eating ANY unidentified mushroom could quickly and easily be the LAST mistake you make friend. and not to mention the fact that major organ failure probably isnt the most comfortable way to go either.

that said what part of the country are you in and can you better describe the fungus for us and or provide some sort of photo? and to answer your question yes i eat mushrooms out of my yard year round. i have a huuuuuge yard in comparison to everyone in my neighborhood and i get a few EDIBLE varieties popping up each year mainly agaricus and oyster with a few gyms here and there

how long ago did you do this? with some poisonous mushrooms the fatal liver and kidney problems don't start for weeks or months.

Not true at all. The Destroying Angels and Death Caps take 24 hours to show symptoms.

Where the hell do you kids get your information? Surely to God you dont just believe what you read from most of the people here?

apparently you missed the part where that person said SOME not all mushrooms have delayed effects to your vital organs and that is a fact....quick to judge the information that you didnt obviously take the time to read

Show a link that says there are mushrooms that take weeks or months to kill. I've never heard of this.

OP: many mushrooms are TOXIC. Like, you will DIE. From just ONE. Don't ever pick a mushroom and eat it, you have NO IDEA how lucky you are to have survived that experience man, you came within a millimeter of death.

the poisonous ones look identical to the non-poisonous ones as well, so dont try and print off a PDF field guide to help lol. Identifying mushrooms is an art still not perfected by the science of mycology.

it is a bit true that some the toxic effect dont manifest for a few days, to a week..

    http://www.namyco.org/toxicology/poison_syndromes.html

Erythromelalgia. Mushrooms: Clitocybe amoenolens and C. acromelalgia.
Similar species include Clitocybe (Lepista) inversa, Clitocybe squamosa, Clitocybe gibba, and Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca.
    [IMG] Clitocybe amoenolens

Saviuc and Danel (Saviuc P, Danel V, “New Syndromes in Mushroom Poisoning.” Toxicol Rev 2006; 25(3):199-209) point out that the erythromelalgia syndrome was described as early as the 19th century in Japan and South Korea with Clitocybe acromelalga and since 1996 in France and later in Italy with Clitocybe amoenolens. Erythromelalgia occurs as a result of a maldistribution of blood flow with extremities of the body (typically nose, fingers and toes) calling for more blood and winding up with so much blood flow through various open vessels that hands and feet and nose receive too much and turn bright red, warm to the touch. The situation is very painful and symptoms can last for months. Onset of symptoms is about 1 week after ingestion of the mushrooms and appears to be caused by acromelic acids, compounds that structurally mimic the neurotransmitter glutamate.

Have you ever heard of ORELLANINE, a toxin found in several Cortinarius species of mushrooms?
It CAN (though in most cases in about 2-3 days) take a MONTH for symptoms to show before you die a very horrible death from kidney failure.

to discourage any further flaming.. lol.
Those that dont go out in the fields to pick are less likely to come across poisonous mushroom and even those that do go out are looking for the species that grow in their area..
As for myself there are only 3 species in my area that I could possible pick and 9 out of 10 times they do not resemble poisonous shrooms..

I wouldnt even pull it for ID because if its not one of the 3 that we can eat.. And it makes no sense to pull inactives unless they are 100% edible inactive or common mushrooms but even so.. Im not starving and have no need to harm the species in the woods thats minding its own business..

I grew up with my grandma teaching me about native plants and wildlife where I am from. She is a marine biologist and a botanist, she was a professor for years at our local community college. We would go for nature hikes days on end and she would teach me what plants I could eat, use medicinally and what were dangerous and/or poisonus.

She would go on yearly "mushroom hunts" in "secret" spots all over the state with all these old lady botanist friends of hers. She would never say where. I always wonderend if she would intentionally eat a psychedelic mushroom, but I don't think so cause she thinks weed turns you into the devil. But besides the point, she did say that there were spieces that would take a few days to get the bad effects and potentially kill you.

    1 <3 my grandma! :D
