Would the poppies grow good down here unattended? I hear papaver somniferum grow like weeds so i figured if i just sowed a crop after a good rain storm the would sprout and grow on there own. However, I'm concerned about the climate. Its very humid and very hot in the summer. and sometimes gets LOTS of rain. Would they be fine if i just scattered them in a field?
check out the somni-forum... https://forum.poppies.org/index.php? great info on growing poppies. Your climate should be great, soil quality will be your larger concern, depending how north or south you are it may be time to sow, although planting in fall is considered the best so you are in the vegging stage before winter, giving the plants a larger chance of survival. ALso then they can expend their energy bolting and growing fat ass pods in the spring instead of going thru all the growth stages... GOOD LUCK!
