English actually works great for writing and poetry. For how it sounds, meh, it's neutral. For complexity and shit that makes no sense in it, A+
I think one who has adequate communication skills can get their point across in any language, regardless.
it has nothing to do with if you can do it. it has to do with efficiency and style I can get across the country solo in an 18 wheeler with a trailer full of lead, but I can do it better in a CMT-380
No he means most languages have an expression of the word that is inclusive and one that is exclusive. In the English language we tend to use "or" in the exclusive sense as in it is either on or the other and not both. However the word "or" can also be inclusive, which means it is one, the other or both. This when we use the horrible piece of grammar "and/or". Not that I study language, but this becomes a problem in logic, one has to be specific of which "or" one means, inclusive or exclusive (and im using that last "or" in an exclusive sense). Dave is right, not the opposite to left but the opposite to wrong.
i don't know if i would consider it a problem; except when trying to teach it to people who refuse to follow the basic properties. it may take an extra line or two, but that's not really so bad. admittedly, it's been about 7 years since i did any academic logic, so i don't remember too much of it, but i remember at the time thinking that it's basically the perfect language, in that you can express pretty much anything without the potential for miscommunication. of course, this is not to say that english couldn't use another or.
bite your tongue. people still have fits over either / or and neither / nor. heads would pop. people would cry.
