ive been wondering this for quite some time now. how much did a dime bag cost back in the 60s? and was it good bud?
10 bucks...dime bag....no bud...stems-seeds-leaf for bud it was thai stick and as I recall they were around $30 for a 6"-7" stick of buds....and man was it worth it!!!
1972 Boulder,Colo. No one sold "dime bags" in my hood... ten bucks would getcha 1 oz Mexican or 1/2 oz Jamaican or 2 grams Afghani black hash or 1/8 oz Lebanese blond hash.... Those were the days! ps: The Thai stick was wonderful! ZW
In the mid 60's in Mississippi you could get a dime bag in the black section of town (stems, leaves, seeds)- before the flow of weed started. By 67 a lid (one full ounce) was $20.00 and a pound was $100 - $160. I wish everybody could have experienced 68-72. Talk about doing your own thing - man I miss that.
Yeah, no dimes, lids 3/4 to oz. Varied according to market. West coast, 15 to 20, mid west, 20 to 30, east coast 25 to 40. Predominately Mexican. Also at that time there was not the level of market sophistication there is now, nor the consumer awareness and getting ripped off was not infrequent. No where at that time was the pot as potent as some of the hybrids we have now. The grass was no greener then.
Is Lebanese blond the same thing as we used to call keef - or were they different animals? Man, I loved hash - just a bit in a pipe - blam!! I had so much weed i would heat it up in alcohol - strain it - then evaporate off the alcohol -- that was good too - more than once I singed off my eyebrows though. :willy_nilly: View attachment 43922
I can remember selling 1oz bags for $10 and we called that a "dime bag." A half ounce was a "nickel bag" and sold for $5. Pot didn't have a lot of fancy names or come from a lot of exotic places back then. I think it was all Mexican, or possibly domestic. About the only premium brand that I can recall from back then was the legendary Acapulco Gold, and no one ever had any of that. I'm sure it sold for a premium price, too, but I never had the opportunity to find out.
In California we didn't weigh out bags. We had 2 and 4 finger lids. A 4 finger lid was $10. The quality depended on the kind of weed. My favorite was Maui Waui. It was mellow but not like the "wheel chair weed" of today and it didn't give you the munchies.
I knew some local good-ol-boys in Mississippi back then who could get some knockout Columbian grass really cheap. They sold it in Mason jars. (For those not from MS, the Columbian grass was a local joke - but it really was from the woods around Columbia)
Around 1970 or so in the Cocoa Beach area of Florida it was $10 for an ounce of Mexican or Jamaican. Columbian was a bit more. Everyone had scales and it was expected to be a full ounce. In 1972 on Maui, Afghani Primo hash was $5 a gram or $20 a quarter ounce. I don't actually recall paying for any Maui Wowi at the time as the hash was so plentiful. I remember a party on Makena Beach where a guy had a bong that had a bowl that could hold a pound of pot. He filled the bowl. It was actually kind of wastful but a lot of people got wasted.
Yeah- -we bought an ounce of mexican crap for 20 bucks You could get an ounce of OK-Jamaican for 30 bucks They used to call them a 4-finger ounce- because if you put-4- of your fingers together, thats how high up the baggie the weed would be.Lots of seeds ,stems..etc...What the hell,it was like 40-45 yrs ago - - NY -ALWAYS trying to get an extra few bucks- even back then Once in awhile we would find real good ty-sticks or a small amount of real panama red- that would be kinda expensive for its day- In NY WE HAD loose joints- hell, someone would give ya a joint for a tuna sandwitch back then- I dont remember dime bags- till much later But good ol LSD was about a buck or2 a hit- -very clean, very strong and plentiful jjack
In 'Nam, around '69, you could buy a kilo of black hash laced with opium for $200 if you knew the right people. A lot of that went to the states hidden in cheap Pioneer speakers. You could get away with that kind of thing back in those naive times. Hell, I knew a grunt that sent a friggen M-60 home, piece by piece. peace n luv
a 'dime' bag was always ten dollars. that's why it was called a 'dime' bag. ('dime'= ten, silly!) sure, the weed was cheaper to buy back in the 60's and 70's. but hey, the THC content was way lower than the bud of today! today's bud is far, far more potent, believe me! i smoked from the early 60's until just awhile ago. the weed of the 60's and 70's was also full of stems and seeds, so you ended up paying for weight that you couldn't even smoke! not so with today's bud. i'm really high on life now and don't 'need' weed anymore, or any kind of depressant or stimulant. I like a clear mind. But, i'm not gonna put anyone down for what they do to themselves. It's your life, your body, so do what you will and judge no one. love on, gang! ~LL~
